Does anyone know what causes dark shadows around eyes? I have had this for some time, and it is gradually becoming more obvious (see photo). I'm not tired and nobody has hit me!

What can I do about it? Moisturiser doesn't seem to help much.

If it's relevant, I'm 42.

Thanks.

i am 23, and have the same problem, but i had it now for a few years, and i am very fit.

the docter told me it has something to do with my alergies and sinus.

Usually I thought it was due to lack of sleep, but I have them, including like bags under my eyes so yup.

The dark shadows are caused by one or more of the following:

1. insufficient sleep

2. food allergies

3. Not eating right. Diet deficient in Vitamin K and Iron (eat more leafy green vegetables, red meat, tuna, salmon, eggs, whole grains)

4. heredity (do others in your family have the same problem?)

5. hormonal changes

Always best to ask your doctor.

I have had a similar issue since I was a kid - it's something I have had so long that I don't even notice it anymore - so I attribute it to myself as a trait. If this is something you recently developed, then I would surely see a doctor and find out what is causing it. IMHO, I do not see anything that unusual in your photo, but then again I am probably a bad judge.

I thought this was a thread about Dark Shadows... but anyway usually I get them when I am tired.

Orlandude is so right. Check out your doctor or a person who dels with food allergies.

drink lots of water - at least 6 glasses a day, take a multivitamin and get plenty of sleep.

I experience this as well and I have not yet found a cure for mine, I am 21. As the poster above says, just use some concealer to you figure it out. It only takes a few seconds to dab some and blend it under your eyes.

There's the ceramide time eye capsules from Elizabeth Arden which works very well for the price and there's Hylexin which is specifically designed to remove dark circles.

Got the same problem and am only 20, i've always had dark "bags" under my eyes, my dad and brother have the same so must be a genetic thing.
I wouldn't worry about it to be honest, just move on with your life having bags under your eyes isnt the worst thing in the world. As for makeup it is an option, lots and lots of guys are wearing makup now-a-days so if you're selfconcious it is an option.
As others have said you could also see your doctor, however people naturally develop bags under their eyes as they age.
