Daschle: Delinquent Personal Taxes [MERGED]

Daschle should be out -- and everyone else who has served in Washington any time in the last five years.

I've got no problem with that thought.

When they are elected in thats our fault when Obama appoints them thats his fault.

Re: Obama chooses another tax cheat for cabinet

If he were a Conservative, the press would slay him. More double standard from your liberal press. They give every democrat a pass.

Of course they slay Conservatives. It's the Conservatives who force values and patriotism down our throats, and then turn out to be closet- cases and/or deviants who dodge drafts or fill out "daddy waivers". They say all drug dealers should be locked up until their own addictions are brought to light wherein they scream that the liberal media's picking on them.

Why shouldn't the media pick them apart?

Bravo.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

A Former Conservative

not sure what's worse

the original post or the "ur right" post

the media should not pick them apart .............. unless they're willing to pick another apart for the SAME thing

its pretty simple

rules r rules

standards r standards

and then they r not upheld by elected officials, the media needs to make it clear and be outraged by the act/individual not only if they're a repub or conservative

pretty fucking simple

yet 2 folks thing o/w

and prob more

as for daschle - always liked him - always did a good job on tv making his case IMO - most recently this election season for obama

pretty clear to me why he took care of this - the timing and all

Re: Obama chooses another tax cheat for cabinet

. It's the Conservatives who force values and patriotism down our throats,

Hmmm. You have a problem with values and patriotism? That doesn't say much good about you.

Actually, the best thing about a Democrat in the White House coupled with a Democrat majority in Congress is all of the unforseen tax revenue that is coming in...it certainly would not have happened if McCain had won the election.

God Bless America.

Oh, and GREAT avatar Drewsuf!

You're right but you see the problem is now ObamaNation is as hypocritical as those Conservatives.

Obama made all kinds of promises about Change and ethics and transparency and a couple of weeks in he's not only breaking his promises, he signed Executive Orders and is already breaking those.

Obama and his followers ceded the moral high ground.

Obama and Daschle are close, and that along with Daschle's ties to the Senate being what's protecting Daschle's confirmation is the same-old-politics-as-usual at play here. Nope, no Change here either.

So then the question is, is Daschle the best person for the job? Well if you can't keep track of your taxes are you competent to run the biggest (money-wise) cabinet agency? Is Daschle's political judgment competent enough to lead through the vitally important but politically complicated waters of health care? Evidence points to no. Start with when he was finally, briefly, Senate Majority Leader, did his commitment to using his power for the best possible achievement lead him to draw a line in the sand with Republicans over the war in Iraq or tax cuts -- as Democrats had indicated they would? Nope. His judgment was to take his biggest stand over union work rules for the Department of Homeland Security.

A Tom Daschle campaign ad:

There's probably one about lobbyists too.

Re: Obama chooses another tax cheat for cabinet

Hmmm. You have a problem with values and patriotism? That doesn't say much good about you.

I don't have a problem with values and patriotism.
I have a problem with a man who would deny gays the right to be together, yet is revealed to have had a gay relationship, himself.
I have a problem with a woman who stresses abstinence as the most viable and realistic birth control, yet expects us to simply look over the fact that her own daughter got knocked up before graduating high school.
I have a problem with a President and Vice President who sent peoples' children to die in a senseless war, yet when faced with war themselves found ways to avoid going to the front lines.

Conservatives talk a big game and through legislation want to control how people live, think, and speak, yet many of them refuse to live up to the standards that we're expected to live up to.
It's still bullshit when liberals do it, but they're not renown for forcing constrictive values down our throats.

Obama has set up a standard of ethics in his administration. Daschle fell short of it and removed himself as a nominee for HHS. You can't sit on a board of taxation and then be caught not paying your taxes, when the little man gets shit from the IRS every year about taxes.
So I commend his choice to step down, even if it was to just avoid further embarrassment.

Oh man...between tax evasion, undocumented immigrant nannies, adultery, gay flings and drug abuse/drunk driving, it seems that nearly EVERY politician is involved...

Politicians are basically a bunch of us that have been raised to high office.
Just because I'm movin' on up doesn't mean I won't pack my vices along with me.

Obama has set a standard of ethics far higher than any administration before him. Some will meet the expectations and some won't, but that an effort is being made to change how things work can't be disregarded, nor can we expect a 30 year system to change in 15 days. Let's not forget that your own dear Hilary comes with a heavy mixed bag of her own, as we're still learning just how much President Clinton is earning from patrons in the Middle East.

I commend Daschle for realizing that he's posing a real problem for Obama and step down. Despite GOP huffing and puffing he would have made it through and been confirmed. It's my hope that he shares Obama's vision for responsibility and change in the system. It's also my hope that Obama not follow a McCain-type vetting process system from here on out.

There should be an ethics structure that doesn't involve the politicians at all -- like, maybe a board of retired college ethics professors, with the authority to impose serious penalties.

Gee, you make him sound like a terrible choice!

If Obama won't stick strictly to his own rules, the next president will just go back to business as usual.

Yes, on Day 1.

And on Day 1 he broke his own standard.

That makes his standard meaningless.

As I said during the campaign, he's Just Words and he's untrustworthy. He's proving I was right.

Some will meet the expectations and some won't, but that an effort is being made to change how things work can't be disregarded,

This isn't Kindergarten.

The President doesn't get an A for Effort.

We need a President who Accomplishes.

Hillary didn't promise to Change the system.

I commend Daschle for realizing that he's posing a real problem for Obama and step down.

I think he's shamed himself and I don't commend him for anything.

He should have paid his taxes, and since he knew he hadn't, he should have told Obama thank you but no, look for someone who didn't cheat on his taxes. That I would commend.

Despite GOP huffing and puffing he would have made it through and been confirmed. It's my hope that he shares Obama's vision for responsibility and change in the system.

You just don't get it.

Daschle has proven he does not share a vision of responsibility for himself and his place in the system. Maybe he has a vision of responsibility for everybody else but so what.

It's also my hope that Obama not follow a McCain-type vetting process system from here on out.

Neither McCain nor Clinton has done anything wrong in this and yet you stoop to ridiculing both of them when Obama and Daschle are the ones who've earned denunciation. Very ObamaNation of you.

What do you mean go back to?

THIS President was back to business as usual on Day 1.
