So I matched with a guy on Tinder and after chatting for a few hours we decided to grab drinks this weekend. He's very cute, we have a lot in common, and he seems like a sweet guy. We're both also looking for dating, not hook ups.

I did some Googling (welcome to 2016) and it turns out he's 10 years older than his age listed on his profile. Now, we have a 16 year age difference instead of a 6 year age difference. Had he been up front about his age, I wouldn't have cared. The fact that he led is what annoys me. I would obviously find out his real age eventually, so why lie?

Am I overreacting or is it valid that I'm upset about this?

I don't think you're overreacting. It's good you two get along and you find him attractive. If you're good with that then by all means you should move forward. If it were me though, I'd definitely confront him about it. If he's willing to be deceptive of his age, then he could lie about other things too.

Unless he lied to you directly about his age, you are overreacting. After all, how many guys live up to the dimensions that they list on their profiles? Age, like penis size, seems to be open to creative interpretation.

Just ask him and see what he says.

It might have been a mistake, a pretty stupid one and far-fetched to believe so, but still. There are folks who don´t know how online profiles work, they either put a different label on themselves or the completely opposite description (hometown, sex orientation, preffered role etc). If you can move past this, meet in a public place and see what vibe he gives to you. At least you´ll get a coffee out of it. Maybe it was easier for him to meet people by lying about his age, who knows. Just take care and have fun!

that happened to me once. I asked him why he said he was 36 when he really is 46. His response was that he must of "fat-fingered the keys on the computer and just didn't realize it" I said ya ok. but didn't contact him again after that.

People often tell me I look younger than I am really. I could make a dating profile and say I'm 5 years younger than my actual age, and nobody would notice it. Apparently your guy is the same case. Talk about it but don't be hard on him.

It definitely would have bothered me.

Starting out on a lie is a complete deal-breaker ...so...no..
I don't think you are over reacting

Would you mind telling us why you felt the need to do a google search on him rather than just deciding for yourself when you met, since you were just meeting for drinks with no other commitment? Could your life stand such scrutiny?
The only thing I know about dating/hookup sites is what I read at JUB, but I would think that lying about age must be at the top of the lying list, right? The lie might not matter for a one night stand, but it would eventually come to light with more serious dating.

Age must be a sensitive issue for those in the dating market and maybe he has been rejected for it before?
Why not meet for drinks as planned and see how it goes. Whether on a internet dating site or in real life, you don't get to know someone's character after one meeting. Lying is always a bad way to start off a relationship, but it's no unforgivable. Or is it?

That happened to me - on my profile it says I'm 75 when I'm actually 74 ! I make sure to tell whomever I'm chatting with about this mistake!

A year is no big deal.

I could get away with claiming my age as 10yrs younger. That is if I'm clean shaved and I cut my sideburns higher. I have all my hair and no noticeable gray in it. I've seen guys my age (and younger) that look far older than I am.

Smart to use Internet search tools to check on people you meet online. Before you meet up tell him you googled him and found out he's 10 years older than his profile stats. How he reacts will tell you some more about him.

Everyone lie.
So the life lesson is, believe but verified.

Eh, it could be a non-issue or a sign of a serious self-image problem. 10 years IS a lot to lie about. I'd be honest. "Hey, I had fun with you, but I got curious and googled, so what does this mean?" Not accusatory at first, be open to him having a silly innocent reason for it. Vanity in online dating isn't the worst thing in the world, and neither is insecurity.

Over reacting many gays for good or bad can be ageist since he is hot and cute and can pass for younger cut him a break see where it goes.

It's like for me I don't look my age I'm 31 but I look like I'm in my 20s but I can see why ppl lie of age that's not right. People should be up front about themself so you do t lie to people you meet.

That happened to me when I started with my boyfriend. He said he was 4 years more than me but in fact he is 8. At first I was hurted but I thought... "what the hell? do you want end up a relationship with your soulmate just for the age? It doesn't matter."

Even more, my best friend's grands had 15 years age difference.

I don't think I'd care unless it was some kind of legal issue, like he said he was legal but wasn't.

If it was on his profile and he didn't tell me directly, I'd probably just assume he forgot, I've got profiles that I know are not updated with my current age.
