David Frum 'I was wrong about same-sex marriage'

Good for him.

He still sounds like a self-important windbag.

There's another thread about him, in CE & P I think. In that thread, a lot of people are getting all over his shit about being a bigot, etc. I see this as a very positive thing...his commentaries are read by a lot of people...his article doesn't trot out the old canard that "marriage must be between a man and a woman" and such things.

He mentions that two guys getting married in Iowa isn't going to have any affect on the decisions that a teenage girl a few states away makes.

As President Obama has said about himself, David Frum's views are clearly "evolving." In the past few years, support for the legality and recognition of same-sex marriage has risen dramatically. There are only three things that can cause the change:

1. Generational drift
2. Demographic drift (mostly involving the resulting change in the portion of the population who consider themselves to be religious)
3. Evolving views about the issue.

The changes have been FAR too rapid to be explained by #1 and #2, so clearly a lot of the change has, indeed, been caused by people's views "evolving."

I have to admit that even I, who favored the idea since Day One when the topic got started 12 to 15 years ago, thought the idea was "kind of weird" at first. I no longer think that way, but that was well before I realized that same-sex marriage had ever existed, even in the distant past.

I'd cut the guy a little slack - even if he made bad decisions in the past, I still feel that forgiveness and trying to right old wrongs is a step in the right direction. It takes a lot to come out and support something as divisive as gay marriage in the conservative scene, especially when you advocated the opposite in the past.

Kudos, Mr. Frum.

No really he is a fucktard that hurt us

He's just jumping ship like the rat he is.

Sad really when someone has no balls and no convictions to stand up for what he believes in whether we agree with them or not.

Hm, well I concede I don't know much about his past - the comment I made was based purely off of skimming the article. I know a lot of politicians are like that though, swing positions when it's convenient. I understand your point of view. :)

Ever heard the "parade theory" of leadership?

Find the parade and get out in front of it....

Mr. Frum is merely jogging quickly through the crowd in an attempt to find out which way the parade is going.
