From a tipster on a soap opera message board...

"This is only a rumor at this point, but reportedly Ken Corday is looking for a stunt to spike ratings, much like the way the Stalker storyline boosted ratings (albeit temporarily).

Apparently the plan is to have Marlena get injured and go into a coma on a Friday episode, and then on the Monday episode, she will wake up, but one year will have passed.

Marlena will awaken to a whole new status quo. Some characters will be dead, different couples will be together, new babies will have been born. Through a series of flashback episodes to air throughout the remainder of the series, the audience will learn what happened during that lost year.

And if this plan doesn't work out? Look for the lost year to turn out to be Marlena's dream, and she will awaken from her coma in real time.

If this happens, expect to see it play out this summer."

What day is April Fools Day this year? I would soo be for that if true, its been pretty boring lately.

I've seen this happen on Xena and Alias. Not sure I want to see it again.

Two things I immediately notice:

One: The rest of the series? As if they expect it to end soon so who really cares what they do if we know it's about to end.

Two: This seems to be the rage for the shows lately. Rob Thomas wants to skip Veronica's college years to have her in the FBI. Marc Cherry wants to skip to 6 years later for the Desperate Housewives (flashbacks to what happened in those missing 6 years and all). And I even heard that Mark Schwan wants to do this for his miserable show One Tree Hill, having the characters avoid their college years to continue the melodrama as adults.

I'm for it with the right storylines and explanations as to the gap in time but not if every single show out there is gonna start doing it. They can't all be Dynasty, now.

I have read that Days is scheduled to be canceled by 2010 or earlier following the trends of fewer daytime drama viewers.

That rumor has been going around for years. I'm going to keep an open mind until I hear actual confirmation.

Yea I've heard about this before. Wasn't it bad enough that Dallas did that (it was Dallas wasn't it? - I never watched it lol). I don't see them doing this because I think I would totally stop watching. To have characters we know and love just be "gone" or something. I just don't see them doing this.

TV has been around for years... every storyline has been played to death.

I think it could be interesting.

"General Hospital" just scored a major success with its recent hostage storyline, which began at the end and then flashed back to a month earlier to show what went down during that time leading up to the denouement. So I would not be surprised to see "Days," or other soaps for that matter, try to pull off a similar stunt. This is all borrowed, of course, from successful primetime shows like "Lost," "The Nine" and "24."

"Days" contract with NBC expires next year, and it has been steadily declining in the ratings ever since the Salem Stalker storyline peaked three years ago. Every time the show comes up for contract renewal, it seems to squeak by, despite diminishing viewership and increasing production costs. So this proposed storyline may have the imminent end of "Days" in mind.

Head writer Hogan Sheffer was brought in last summer to revitalize the show, as he had done with "As The World Turns," but his storytelling of late has been flat and uninvolving. The CBS and ABC soaps are all superior to the once cutting-edge, must-see "Days." Even its NBC sister soap, "Passions," despite its cartoonish tone, cringe-worthy acting and pending departure for soap heaven later this year, at least has some pretty outrageous storylines going on right now that keep the show compelling.

In fairness to Hogan Sheffer, he had a lot more to work with at "As The World Turns". Unlike DAYS, ATWT had some really good actors to carry storylines. When even your veteran actors are bad (Drake Hogestyn, anyone?) , it's hard to fix things.

Don't forget, NBC also cut Days budget by a massive amount. They have no budget to work with. When all the action has to take place on one set, it's hard to get creative and make it compelling.

Yes, Days has its stinker actors (Drake Hogestyn, for example) but for the most part, the cast is full of great actors and actresses. Martha Madison, Brandon Beemer, Stephen Nichols, Mary Beth Evans, Deidre Hall, Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso... just to name a few. I'm also loving Julie Pinson (Billie) Rachel Melvin (Chelsea) and Blake Berris (Nick)

I can't believe a group of men care this much about a soap opera.

I can't believe a group of men care this much about a soap opera.

Please. The majority of television is serialized drama now. 24? A primetime soap opera with a big budget. LOST? A primetime soap opera with a big budget. Desperate Housewives? A primetime soap opera with a big budget. The list goes on and on...

I was kinda happy when I heard Days was gonna get new writers (not sure if it was 1 or more). But I have really not seen any changes that are worthwhile. Days IMO needs some kind of overhaul. I dunno if it can be saved though. I've been watching this show since I was in HS over 13 years ago. At this point, it seems like they just repeat the same mess that they've been repeating for years. Now, I can't even stand to watch a full hour of the show. It's torture!

So, can someone give me a quick recap of what is going on with Days of Our Lives these last few years? I haven't watched since the Murder At Midnight Storyline with Victor and Nicole's New Years Wedding years ago. I'm sure a lot has changed, but what is going on with Kate and Sami? Those were my two favorite bitches. I was always rooting for Kate, even when she got really crazy!

LOL, I was always rooting for Sami between those 2.:D
My favorite bitch was Vivian way back in the day.

Sami & Kate are my favorite feuding ladies, that rivalry will never get old...but I wish they would bring back Stefano & Kristen, I loved them back in the 90's thats when I first started watching was during the whole Stefano/Marlena/John/Kristen/Susan/baby E.J./Hope/Prince Gina thing...I miss those days (No pun intended)

i like it, ill be watching on Friday to see if it goes down.

It kinda reminds me of how Sunset Beach ended, when Meg woke up and the entire soap opera had been a dream lol. That was a fun twist and ending to a show.

I think I'd actually be game for this kinda of pull. Days has been in need of something drastic to shake things up. As it has been said, the Salem Stalker storyline was great, ESPECIALLY when we found out Marlena was the stalker. Talk about crazy good!

Here are the things I currently like about Days:

- Sami: As far as female Brady's go, she's the best around. I'm in love with this girl!
- E.J.: He has truly become a compelling villain. He has just the right amount of slime without being greasy. While my love for Lucas/Sami is greater than E.J./Sami, I still like the latter. Too bad he's kinda burned that bridge, although I like this baby twist.
- Nick/Chelsea/Billie: Honestly, Chelsea actually has a decent storyline going on and I'm finally interested. Plus, this new Billie has been pretty on-point. I didn't like the Billie/Patch direction for awhile, but he's got his own problems.
- Shawn/Belle/Claire/Philip/the whore (whose name I can't remember now): I'd like them but they aren't in a good place to be liked. I'm sick of them being on the run. I'm sick of Philip's jackass tone now. I'm sick of Shawn's hooker ex hanging around, and I swear if that baby is Shawn's...VOMIT!

What I'm tired of in Days:
- Patch/Kayla: I know the reasons behind bringing them back. This couple brings something back to Days for the old folks while freshening things up with the loss of Jack/Jenn. As a young viewer though I just DON'T CARE.
- Abigail/Max: It's honestly boring. Things were more interesting when it was Stephanie/Max/Chelsea.

Who I would like to see more of:
- MARLENA!!!!!!

And, what about Phillip? I saw him on the show the other day and I was completely confused! How long has he been back on the show? And what's wrong with him? He was acting evil!

Is Mimi still on the show? She was another one of my faves. Remember when Chloe put superglue in her shampoo bottle! And then Jan and Mimi posted porn pictures of Chloe on the internet and they were arrested! Those were the days!

You've missed, well... quite a bit.

There was a serial killer loose in Salem who killed 10 people. The serial killer was revealed to be none other than Marlena, who was then killed herself. Months later, it was revealed that everyone was actually alive and on an island that was build to look exactly like Salem... only tropical. Eventually, they were all rescued and brought back home.

Brady and Chloe got married and left the show.

Mimi recently learned that she killed her father when she was younger and blocked it from her memory... then she left town.

Shawn and Belle have kidnapped Claire (their baby) because Phillip feels that Claire is his child (he and Belle were married at one point, then he went off to war, lost a leg, then came back and realized that Belle was pregnant... only later did he learn that Shawn was the father). You also missed Jan building a cage around the bed in her bedroom, then kidnapping Shawn and holding him captive, tied to the bed inside the cage, LoL.

Bo and Hope's baby, Zach, was run over by a car that Chelsea was driving and he died. Chelsea is the daughter that Bo had with his ex, Billie. They thought she was dead, but she came back to life, LoL.

Stefano's son, EJ, came to Salem. He wanted to 'plant his seed' in a Brady woman, so he chose Sami. This past January, he raped her. Now she's pregnant, but Lucas (Sami's husband) doesn't know about the rape. EJ has threatened to harm her and her family if she says anything. Meanwhile, EJ shot John Black and right now, John is in a coma. EJ also had John's kidney removed and it's been given to a dying Stefano.

Jack and Jennifer recently left Salem. Jack's going to be back for a few episodes soon, but the actress who played Jennifer moved to Tennessee with her family and will likely not be back.

Also, Patch and Kayla have returned. He's being brainwashed by EJ into doing evil deeds for the DiMeras. Right now, he's institutionalized, but trying to find a way out...

Carrie and Austin came back for a short while, then left together after they learned that Sami blackmailed Lexie into telling them that they would have retarded children if they ever mated, LoL.

Kate, meanwhile, is still meddling with her children's lives.
