It hasn't helped that I've had to wear a tie twice this week, so as well as the initial rash, it's been mercilessly rubbed by my shirt collars. My neck's a complete mess, and itchy to boot.

I shave with a Gillette Mach 3, and use a "sensitive" brand of shaving foam.

And ideas on how to combat shaving rash?

Thanks,
-T.

What do you put on your face after shaving? If you don't put anything on, that may be the problem.

we shave in the shower and the added heat/humidity works great..

we also use a good moisturizer after but not much along neck line as it can stain the shirts

I use the Mach 3 and the Gillette "extra hydrating gel". It's the best I've ever used. I have pretty sensitive skin and I get rashes and stuff anyway but if you haven't tried that, definitely worth a try for a few bucks.

I use a mild exfoliant in the shower before shaving. After shaving, I rinse my face with cool water and apply an aftershave and moisturizer.

Where you're probably going wrong is the shaving cream. Shaving cream isn't a replacement the hot soap and water that men used to use before shaving.

Most shaving rash results from small nicks in the skin that occur when the razor strips the surface of the skin. This both causes irritation to the skin and it allows bacteria to enter the cuts.

Before shaving, wash your face with soap and warm water. This will remove the surface bacteria and it will also soften your skin. Then apply either a shaving cream or a lotion before shaving. And as the others have suggested, you can use an astringent or an after-shave on your face after you finish shaving.

The Mach3 is a very good razor. Just be sure to shave in the direction the hair grows or at a slight angle. Avoid shaving "against the grain" since this will just force dead skin and bacteria into the hair follicles.

I always shave after a hot shower or I put a really hot wash cloth on my face b4 I shave. That is key. I don't shave everyday though. I like to give it a couple days in between. I don't put any after shave on either. I do own like 3 after shaves but that actually broke me out. I spash cold water on my face after I shave.
