Dealing with people on gay.com

Well I chatted with another guy tonight. We didn't hit it off, but it wasn't quite so psycho as the first one this morning.

Guess you just gotta pick and choose carefully.

I personally avoid gay.com. I had a profile there, said I wasn't looking for sex (not specifically, if it finds me..well..that might be different), was on their chat for days at a time and not one reply.

So either a) I'm not the poster boi that everyone wants or b) everyone's after one thing and those who aren't don't chat in gay.com or c) those who weren't after just one thing are quiet.

So I gave up after that, deleted the profile and that's that.

I think it depends on what chatroom you're in. They have a lot of rooms arranged geographically, and if you're in one of those I would assume the people are at least hoping to meet somebody in person. Otherwise why would they care where you live?

But if you're in a room called Daddies & Sons or Firefighters or Married Men -- I think it's safe to assume they're mostly looking for cybersex, even if they claim they're not. Not to mention some of the peculiar options available in the rooms started by users.

Also, did you post a picture? Nobody's going to chat with a person with no picture.

I got my terminology mixed up. I was IMing with the guy; I didn't discover the chat rooms until this morning. My! !oops! I always thought JUB seemed kinda vanilla; now I know why. ;)

I've never been a big chat or IM fan, so I haven't done much of either. Never even did PMing much 'til I came to JUB.

So I started off by just looking through the profiles, and sent a few e-mails to a couple that sounded interesting and "real". I did not send any messages to guys whose photo was a penis. ;) That wasn't what I was looking for.

So the surprise was when the IM conversation was so quickly changed from talk about profile/interests to, well, sex. Well, you may be wondering what the hell I was thinking, right?! But the profiles I responded to have plaintive calls to "I don't want a hookup, I want a relationship", so that's why it was so surprising.

But I guess it's all relative!

I'm over it now; it was just a shock at the beginning.

P.S.--Yes, I do have a photo, but it's private; I unlock it for most people unless they seem bizarre.

Same here, I had a pic and I wasn't talking in odd rooms.

Give me a little credit here, I do have some sense.

Oh sorry, Lube, my comment was mostly in response to NathanR. I should have done one of these things ^^^.

But beyond that, I don't really have an answer. I've only ever gone there for online sex and had NO trouble finding that. To look for somebody who isn't going to at least assume your interest is primarily sexual would be -- challenging, I think, on that site.

The phrase I have continuously heard from many sources regarding gay.com is "Meat Market".

Yes, indeed.

As my latest blog entry can attest to, I've had sort of a change of opinion of that whole scene.
