Dear Americans,

I just remembered something: there's the Native American silver and turquoise trinkets. I guess that's about as American as one can get. Well, that and tomahawks (not the missiles. Customs would be a bitch with those.)

Ha ha ha..Soilwork doesn't represent America in the least. We're just glad he's out of Canada because he doesn't represent us either

Wow, I didn't realise that the question meant North American and
thus Soilworks Canadian childhood self image memories could
interface as a viable response to the o/p.

Butt, vvaamim that begs your question. Perhaps a pair of

American Pride iPhone Case, carry the US Flag everywhere they go

BTW Soil...
Nothing personal, this was a response in case you were
not being your usual droll sarcastic 'tongue in cheek' self.
Sadly, even some natural borns have a similar attitude,
even sadder...many U.S. Americans resemble that.

Do your friends want American cultural stuff or do they want something that's only sold in the United States or that's extremely expensive in other parts of the world?

The #1 gift requested by my foreign relatives are pharmaceuticals. The US is well known for supplements and the pills are actually manufactured in the US as well!

The United States is also famous for cheap, name brand electronics. The software that powers practically all computers and smartphones in the world comes from the US! Get your friend a new smartphone.

Or if you want to get them something very exotic and only found in the US, get them a Kindle. Just make sure it works in the foreign nation first! (I.e. power outlets are correct.

The US is also home to a myriad of eccentric, designer brands. Los Angeles is home of the "made in US" designer movement. American Apparel is a hip "Made in US" brand. For women, nothing screams American than Juicy Couture. each article of clothing is proudly "Made in the Glamorous USA". That the brand isn't actual "couture" is a cute American touch. FOREVER 21 also used to be made in L.A. but I'm not sure if it still is.

And what would the US be without its prestigious colleges? No where in the world do so many individuals wear college brand apparel or watch so much college sports. Get your friends a UCLA hoodie. (NOTE: UCLA or USC are the best colleges to get. Other US colleges either do not have the international renown or suck at college sports.)

While we're on sports, football (otherwise known as American football internationally) is very American. Get your friends a NFL jersey!

Did you all know that Hershey Candy Bars and

OH MY GOD THIS IS CRIMINAL Levi's ain't made

here no more. Check the label next time you buy

an American Flag too.

Hell, even a lot of babies are made elsewhere and popped out here.

I don't know what ever company made you think Levi's was made in the US.

Hershey's does slightly surprise me but not because I think of it as an "American" company.

Plenty of food, esp. processed food, is still made in the US. That the brand isn't made in the US implies the company is selling us cheap, poison crap.

Gosh resonance old boy,

Silly of me.

Levi Strauss and Company, the American West, U.S. and WORLD ICON

  • Born: 26 February 1829
  • Birthplace: Buttenheim, Bavaria (now Germany)
  • Died: 26 September 1902
  • Best Known As: The creator of Levi's denim jeans
Name at birth: Loeb Strauss
Levi Strauss made his fortune in the California Gold Rush as the maker of sturdy pants -- Levi's, the world's most famous denim jeans. Strauss emigrated to New York from Bavaria in 1847, then made his way to the San Francisco area in 1853. A tailor who had planned to make tents for miners, Strauss ended up stitching canvas pants that became famous for their durability. The "pants of Levi's" came to be called simply Levi's, and they became one of the best-selling products in his dry goods store. He began using fabric from Nîmes, France, serge de Nîmes (the origin of the word denim), then added dye to make them blue. In the 1870s he partnered with Jacob Davis of Nevada to add copper rivets to the pockets. Levi Strauss & Company became one of the world's largest manufacturers of casual clothing and Strauss himself became a wealthy patron of the city of San Francisco. Strauss was a lifelong bachelor, and after his death in 1902 his nephews took over the company.
Strauss endowed 28 scholarships in 1897 for the University of California at Berkeley... The original San Francisco factory was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake, then rebuilt

Now why would I want/think of them as American

How about crack? I never hear of a crack problem anywhere else in the world. You could make some pin money keeping them supplied - that seems very American.

I'm thinking about getting them Western-style clothing. Like, legit cowboy clothing. That makes me think of America...sorta. Would that work?
If that's what you think of when you hear USA; but, I live in California and I've never seen anyone wear that stuff. I also have no idea where you intend to buy cowboy attire. (Maybe a costume shop?)

A football jersey is honestly the easiest way to go and most reflective of the contemporary US. You could find them at any shopping center. -.-

Messy Ressy,

You re becoming Californias answer to several Jubbers who make

remarks without regard to logi. common sense or FACTS. If you type

in the request for Western Apparel, Southern California you might learn

there are several purveyors of 'western' clothing rather close to your

alleged location.

The HEE Hawesque shows and Wild Wild West Type touring Companies

with the costumery and flash were/are Hollywood productions of the real

thing. Simply put for you, the difference between one having a coke,

ordering a 'Coke...or even doing some coke.

!oops! Oops,!oops! my bad[-X I'm sorry,#-o Just noticed that although you claim to

live in California it is actually Los Angeles , our LALA land.

OKAY, my post was as unnecessary as your last two posts, #52/57.

Let us shut up and allow the thread to find its' rails again.

Because all Levi's were made in the USA, it is a well known American Brand. Now I believe only the high end Levis are still produced in San Fransisco, but maybe even that has moved out.
I used to work for a company that serviced two Levi Factories in Texas and one in Henderson NV.
These are examples of good jobs in rural areas, Levi's offered decent pay and quality benefits.
Levi's was a major American employer. The loss of these quality jobs leaves these communities with nothing but part time low wage no benefit jobs such as taco bell or Walmart if one is lucky
Now when you check the label you will find Levis made in Mexico, China, & Cambodia. Even if you get the same type of Jeans. Lets say 501 and they come from different factories they will not both be equal. the quality control sucks in these 3rd world shit holes but the price is right.

I am surprised you weren't aware of that!

Actually all Levis were not all made in the USA. They had factories all over Canada for at least the last several decades, which closed along with US factories as production was moved out of north america.

Countries don't make mass consumer goods on their own any more. Countries don't trade goods, they make them together. So there aren't really "American" or "Canadian" or "British" brands any more. The contents of any given product, and the value, creativity and effort they represent are all mostly international.

Butt...butt...butt,

LEVI bought the heart and soul of GWG and provided employment for our

disadvantaged 'shirttail' cousins for years...and since Canada IS part of

North America, American made.

These following are false advertising world-wide there bankie lad?

International Monetary Fund estimates show Canada will generate about $51,147 of gross domestic product on a per capita basis in 2011, compared with about $48,147 per capita in the United States. (The figures are quoted in U.S. dollars and are unadjusted for inflation.) If the IMF forecasts prove true, it will be the first time Canada outstrips the U.S. in GDP per person in records dating back to 1980.

The milestone is more than a fun factoid to break the ice at holiday parties over the next week. It describes a shift in Canada’s quality of life – at least measured in terms of consumer choices. Canada’s relative wealth compared with the U.S. explains the rush of American retailers and food chains to the other side of their northern border.

Yes; your poor northern cousins are now doing okay thanks without the Levi factories ;)

Oh Bankie,

I am so devastated. You take us. You use us.

You suck us dry and cast us aside like a cheap

strumpet.

Either you and your colleagues start now and

strive to help the United States during this evil

and challenging time in her history. Otherwise,

we will be sending SOILWORK and his

current entourage back to you
