Dear Straight Men, Come Out Already

I believe in the Kinsey Scale and that there are many more bisexual women AND MEN than previously thought. How can you be straight if you enjoy sexual relations with the same sex? You may be predominately heterosexual but you are at least on the bisexual spectrum. I've heard of gay men who have slept with women but in most cases that was because they were young and confused or they were doing it to hide in the closet. What's the "straight" guys' excuse? People should just accept who they are and be happy with it. Not everything in life is clear and in black and white. I've read women are more "sexually fluid" in translation more likely to be bisexual or experimental with the same sex than men. I believe just as many men are just as likely if not more to have the same tendencies as women in that way. Men are just more afraid to experiment or admit something like that to themselves because society has more of a stigma about sexual relations between two men while many straight men think of the same relations between two women as hot and acceptable. It's just another one of those double standards when it comes to male/female and gay/straight. I can understand someone trying something once but if they do it on more than one occasion and enjoy it I don't see how they can be 100 percent straight.

Unfortunately the Huffington Post has an advocacy bent, so scientific reading from it may not be unbiased in gay research.

As for the Kinsey scale, his work was seriously impugned due to his own rather egregious bias. No researcher who is sleeping with his subjects can be trusted to be objectively studying a behavior.

In theory the Kinsey Scale sounds logical. And if you think about it every guy likes his own penis and to play with it so it's a little "gay" to masturbate I guess (not being too serious on that last comment but it's something to think about). You can't hate and be repulsed by dick if you like your own. I remember a woman saying that doing another girl is like doing it with yourself because it's her same gender (I heard the same comment from a woman on Jerry Springer who was doing it with her identical twin sister). It's a spectrum and it's complicated and not in black and white or crystal clear. I could agree in most cases someone being totally straight if they did it with another guy a few times in jail/prison and never touches another man when they get out for in jail they had no other sexual outlet. Being totally gay I would find it rather difficult to function sexually with a woman so I don't see how guys can function so well with other guys if they are on the 100 percent straight spectrum.

Oh, I passed that article before my initial reaction to its headline: "Dear Straight Men, Come Out Already" is to puke all over it.

Just effin disrespectful.

What is an advocacy bent?

It has a social or political position to champion, notably, the gay rights cause. As such, it's selective promotion of certain social, developmental, behavioral, psychological, and sexual theories is suspect scientifically. It is similar to propaganda supporting eugenics.

The Huffington Post may be a welcome advocate, but not trustworthy in reporting science in any balanced way.

How is the article disrespectful? Though it should have mentioned and acknowledged bisexuality.

The title caters to the oft-seen gay hope that many straight men are just closeted bisexuals waiting to fuck them. That's a bit gratuitous and panders to gay fantasies that are socially disrespectful and unhealthy.

Well said....for the fantasists, are devoted to their fantasies...

THAT is a bit desperate in the application of a selective logic.

Using that sound logic, every man is at least somewhat into scat because he spends time every day looking at it in the toilet.

Men enjoy carving meat, so that means they must at least entertain the idea of playing Jack the Ripper.

That there IS a scale and that the Kinsey scale is logical or that his numbers are accurate are unrelated points. We can conceive of sexuality as being a continuum -- that's a scale. But, we don't have to ascribe to Kinsey's theories of distribution, nor some other conclusions he reached. Research must be replicated to be reliable. His wasn't reliably replicated.

And being complex behavior that is further complicated by social taboos the world over, it makes it extremely difficult to get reliable data.

It's the social equivalent of seeing women as seething pools of nymphomania, just itching to be let loose on the nearest guy.

Yeah, it's a little disrespectful.

Kinsey Scale goes from completely straight to completely gay so most people would be somewhere on the spectrum even if one hundred percent one way or the other. It's a good measurement tool for bisexuals but there is also an article everyone should Google called "What is Bisexuality?" by Kathy Labriola which lists the many types of bisexuals.

I'd hardly compared homosexuality, sexual orientation, masturbation, and using the toilet to scat. The thing is males enjoy playing with their penis and even the look of it when erect. Men may cut meat to cook but that doesn't mean they enjoy doing it.

But the article was about "straight" football players and athletes getting blowjobs by other "straight" guys in the locker room which they call "bro-jobs." A blowjob is a blowjob. Sucking dick and getting sucked by other guys is homosexual behavior. There is nothing straight about it. They can call themselves what they want but they are at least bisexual.
