The death penalty is more expensive than life in jail (because of appeals), but maybe there wouldnt be appeals if laws were re-written

I fail to see how giving every crime a death sentence will make things better. If anything, it will make things worse as the appeal process is expensive. Not to mention, people will end up being killed for false arrests.

The police and justice system could easily turn to corruption because of the power they'd have over the general public, and they could easily exploit their authority to blackmail people. Mentally unstable people turn to crime to end their lives, since it's such an easy way out.

I'd like OP to tell us why he thinks this is a good idea.

Financial wise it would not benefit States. So many people would get the Death Sentence States would have empty Prison facilities. The Prison system is a Cash-Cow and that's why most legislatures want to do AWAY with The Death penalty. Having a man ROT behind bars for 50yrs is CASH...The local, State & Federal Jail house Rock joints can't make money with empty cell beds..

Dont disagree here. I think judges and DA's are more likely to pursue prison time these days and the drug war is simply a proxy for filling prisons.

However, with the appeals process and the cost to the system, executing someone cost more than keeping them around.

California taxpayers pay $90,000 more per death row prisoner each year than on prisoners in regular confinement.

I don't intend death penality as a deterrent, but as an efficent way to get rid of criminals

I'd oppose a "universal" death penalty, but would expand it's application to include rapists and child molesters. As far as thieves and such, I would love to see them publicly whipped. Stop putting people in jail, for many of them, it's more like a family reunion.

It is a junk proposition, ill conceived and poorly presented. Instead of being a debatable point, it merely ends up looking like a juvenile effort at trolling.

When you consider that Hitler pretty much came up with the same idea for homos....it is inconceivable that anyone whose sexuality would be considered illegal in about half the countries on earth would even joke about this.

I am not certain but I think I agree with this proposition. But it is obviously a subject that people have thought about and obviously, in some cases, show their support for a death penalty and indeed could see it being applied to other crimes.

Applied to all crimes is of course an excessive argument often utilised to find out how far people are willing to go in their acceptance of higher penalties against crime.

Personnally I am against capital punishment as I don't see it as a form of justice rather a form of eradication of a problem.

Mind you perhaps you could persuade me for spitting in the street.
