dude, that's how i feel every single time i hear my brother, one of my homies, go on a web forum saying all sorts of gay slurs, saying how being gay is disgusting, frowning down on gay people, cosigning chick-fil-a and etc. i remember in that book i brought and haven't read since mid-april about how you should forgive people around you that say such because they were taught to think that way. i look back @ myself and realize that i too was taught to hate homosexuality and when i realized i was one myself, i became hateful towards myself. but anyways, people don't realize how hurtful it is to those of us that are gay when they say or do certain things. they think we should tolerate it too and respect their views as disrespectful and offensive as it is.

with that said, i do my part by not tossing any money at them punk hating ass bitches anyways.

^ As gratifying as that might be to post, it is completely untrue.

In the cities where I have lived, including Albuquerque, the chief sources of volunteers and donors to food banks and homeless shelters, are churches.

Catholic Charities does an amazing job here, and it is just one of the players.

Just like in a divorce, one party is not all at fault or all bad or all innocent. That is both false and those who allege it lose credibility among the knowing. Fundamentalists, Mormons, and Catholics may lead the opposition to gay rights, but some of the same groups also so key players in ministries to the poor.

You cannot prove otherwise in Albuquerque, nor in most of America. This sort of pissing and moaning just makes for bitter retort, not truth.

In cities where you might not have lived, say, northern european capitals, the chief source of dignity for those who struggle to support themselves is the common effort made by all citizens to look after each other through their taxes. I would argue that such a society is far more ethical than one which abandons the poor to the whims and doctrines and ideologies of whatever congregation happens to feel like getting involved.

I guess things were back to normal. I rode by the CFL in my town, around 4, and it was business as usual, there were a few empty parking spots but not overly busy.

Most would say, and believe, that they are defending marriage from attack.
If they were sincerely interested in defending marriage, papa would need to keep it in his pants (when he's away from home).

By the way, whatever happened to "Promise Keepers"?

Disagreeing with that position does not convert their motive to one of hatred.
Contributing to known hate groups does though.

I recognized it for what it was - a bunch of people who, like the Chick-Fil-A CEO, see something they cherish falling apart. And thousands upon thousands of people, who share that fear, went and bought chicken sandwiches. Because they can't let go. There's a ton of them - no question. But they're the last of them. Their voices have been getting louder mainly because their numbers have been getting smaller, and they're forced to shout in order to keep the volume up.

Hard-Up has the right idea. Because they won't win. Not in the long run. Their kingdom is collapsing. They're crying out that THEY're the oppresed minority now. As we gain rights, and become more visible and a part of their everyday lives, bit by bit, more and more, day by day...they put on their game face, and buy a chicken sandwich.

I thought this was an incredible post, and so insightful. It really is true. Looks at all the online comments on EVERYTHING gay, about how its being "shoved down their throats" and they "don't mind gays, but why can't they give it up". People are taking notice of us more and more everyday, and you can see it in the news and in entertainment. Not only are gay issues and gay characters becoming more commonplce, imo they are beginning to take steps towards being more "average" or "real". Sure some examples are still pretty outrageous/stereotypical/borderline offensive, but I constantly notice more and more gays depicted as normal people.

Hell look at the new shows lately... just off the top of my head I can name Glee, Happy Endings, and The New Normal as shows that have gay characters, and directly address gay issues on primetime tv.

Would have preferred it if whoever made the picture didn't use the Facebook name "The Screaming Queen":roll:

Our mission remains unchanged.

We err if we let their fear and ethnocentrism act as a model for us.

Barriers are not broken down by adopting hate to counter hate.

Our task is to be in society, to work, play, worship, buy, compete and everything else among our more conservative neighbors. As we do, over time, they see we are just more people.

Far from failing, Chick-Fil-A will only continue to prosper and grow. No amount of wishing otherwise will stunt them.

Take a stand, but don't forget that selling out to hate is a mistake whether one is straight or gay, atheist or Christian, conservative or liberal, black or white, whatever. Don't buy into hate. Be proud, but be positive.

Our gay youth weren't under any delusion in these hyper-conservative communities. This changed nothing about what they knew already, just proved it. If anything, it might help them because more supportive people may show up Friday than they ever suspected were in their communities.

Sorry, but there is no 'bright side' to anyone or any company or group who hate you for who you are. There is no 'bright side' to anyone or any company or group who don't think you're worthy of the same rights they enjoy.

The company won't go bust.

^lord, I want a 4-way right now.
I was depressed at the turnout for gayh8day, and the fact that the newpaper gushed at the "community support" Dik-Feel-A recieved, that a gay-friendly editor stated cogent reasons for skipping a boycott, and my own father has become a dummy for Bill O'Reilly's ventriloquism "FREE SPEECH!"

But underneath I know that despite the massive appearance of the pile-up at the drive through - they ARE the minority, they are getting older and smaller. And if I haven't learned to survive in a world out to beat me down - well, I just wouldn't be me, would I?

I defy anyone to present empirical evidence that more non-religious workers volunteer at food banks and homeless shelters, or that they give more money and goods than religious Americans do.

I agree, hard-up. I'm familiar with catholic charities, et al, having volunteered at a crisis hotline and referral service.

I've been thinking of forming a church in Tallahassee, lately, and that's one of the first things on my mind - organising my lgbtqshlkj brothers and sisters to serve the larger community.

Good people who do good things and bad people will do bad things independent of religion. If motivation for doing good deeds is based on avoiding punishment from god and being rewarded with an afterlife then you are morally bankrupt. Do good things because you want to make the world a better place, not be rewarded.

Religious people do tend to donate more to charity and volunteer more but they also tend to be more opposed to gay rights, less accepting of evolution and less favorable towards reproductive rights. Don't get me wrong some religious based organizations do provide a benefit for society like food banks and schools of higher education but the cost of keeping religion around isn't worth it anymore. Societal progress is more important than superstitious beliefs and appeals to tradition.

:rb: Very well said.

luckily it would probably be difficult for one of these places to open up in england, because we have legislation that stops a company from declining someone a job on account of race or sexuality, plus, if one did open up, i would soon burn it to the ground haha, the only way i was able to come to terms with beign gay was because i had online friends i could talk to in privacy, i wish every kid had this

I was driving in Delaware yesterday (or Maryland, not quite sure where, I was lost) when I happened upon a Chick-Fil-A, so I took the oppourtunity to roll down the window and yell out my support for equal rights out the window, just as a bunch of blue haired grannies and a group of 4 marines were exiting. Whoops!

I made mention of some 'things' my cousin posted on Facebook the day her and her family went to support Chick-Fil-A. I didn't respond to anything she said, but it hurt me deeply. I went back to find it to post a screenshot of it, but she apparently removed it. Her husband, however, did not remove what he wrote. This made my blood boil:

It's not about gays or straights anymore. It's about the fact that you have fucking stupid fucks of any kind. I'm so fucking sick of this hostility toward people just because they live differently than how the Bible 'tells' them to. So because I'm gay, I'm not allowed to be apart of the church, or I'm a hater of God, or I'm a Hellbound harlot.

Hmm...I see where I stand with my family.
Don't take it personally, man, though I know how hard it is not to. Just know this, that most "christians" have never read the bible for them selves and only rely on what their priest/reverend/pastor tells them to believe. That's the sad part. They are not smart enough to form their own opinions. If I were ever to put my faith in a book, I'd first research said book to see how it was formed and learn how it got it's meaning. Most christians never learn the history of the modern bible, so they really don't have a clue what they're talking about. Love and pity them, for "they know not what they do."
