Dell Inspiron & Windows Update

My Dell Inspiron 1525 with windows vista 32 bit premium home edition will not connect to windows update.

It says error code 8007005. I can't find anything at mircosoft, dell or their forums addressing this problem.

I'm using F Secure for antivirus, but i installed that before Christmas and windows update still worked. I've tried briefly turning off all the firewalls...no change. (I'm using F Secure because it's free from my internet provider and since I'm not employed right now I'm trying to save money)

I've looked the settings and everything seems ok. The computer can talk to mircosoft...it ran the windows 7 thing and printed me a list of drivers I would have to update if I convert this thing to windows 7.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Only wait until this coming Thursday, 29 April 2010. Then you'll get the final of Ubuntu 10.4. I've been using the beta of 10.4 on my Aspire One, and it is the best OS I've ever seen. Period.



However, since you are a Windows user, I know that you will prefer to keep bashing your head against a wall.

Thanks for th info....don't feel like I'm bashing my head against a wall. Read the book Connections by James Burke or watch and tv show if you can find it. You'll see why all OS crash. Anything built on linear logic will always fail sooner or later.

I alway appreciate the tech help here at the forum. But if anyone is having the same problem I am I wouldn't recommend download the program at the link about.

It said it found over 400 registry errors in my computer, but it only fixes 15 for free. So I paid the $30 to buy the program and while it may have fixed other things, it's didn't fix whatever isn't letting my go to windows update.

Oh well...computers.

But's that's exactly the same advice given in the link I posted, and that (apparently) didn't work.

Stupid Windows Vista. It has created two of me. One of me is just a standard user and the other me is an administrator. The settings between the two of me don't match.

Two windows firewalls, one on the other off. I seem to only be able access one of them.

You know what....fuck it. They're most likely gonna stop supporting Vista soon, so who cares if it updates.

Stop supporting Vista??? Why? Windows 7 hasn't even been largely adopted yet...Windows just keeps getting crappier by the day...

Registry fixing programs don't work usually just create more problems which of course you can get fixed with another cleaner....

Ubuntu sounds like the way to go!!!!!

I got an email from Dell saying to make sure you had service pack 2 installed, that mircosoft was going to stop support for 32 bit version of service pack 1. Funny thing is: I had already installed it. Near as I can tell that's when my problem with Windows Update started.

Dell "helpfully" offered to upgrade my laptop to windows 7 for $200.00.
