Dem Convention Thoughts

The Dems are off to a great start. Michelle Obama was great. Julian Castro was great. However, my favorite quote of the night was from former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland when he said this:

"Mitt Romney has so little economic patriotism that even his money needs a passport. It summers on the beaches of the Cayman Islands and winters on the slopes of the Swiss Alps. In Matthew, chapter 6, verse 21, the scriptures teach us that where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. My friends, any man who aspires to be our president should keep both his treasure and his heart in the United States of America."

^^^ This, and my recurring thought as I viewed the crowd was not only that this is what America looks like, but how very much at home I would feel if I were there! ..|

This was an arrow well placed.

At some point, the average American voter simply has to wake up to the fact that giving the country away to offshore corporations and those who do not actually directly invest in its future is pure madness.

Michelle was great, no doubt about it. Julian Castro was a bright star, and his brother should be also. It was all due to his single Mother. She fought for acceptance while in her 20s. She is the reason the twins are political. They are gonna do great starting this year. Makes me very proud to be a Texan.

Obama can't fill up the stadium so they're back into the small convention hall.

(!)

Cue excuses....... now ....

Didn't realize that the US was majority black.

Not many white men or women in the crowd.

"I'm pro choice, my opponent is multiple choice" - Ted Kennedy just owned Romney from the grave

RNC: Old man loses debate to empty chair.

DNC: Dead man wins debate with opposing candidate.

^ Nah. The right wing narrative is that he can't fill the stadium...even with buses full of illegals.

That would be it. Whatever.

It isn't as though everyone doesn't already know he's running and can follow the speech on-line instead of moving to the Carolina's for the week.

The real test is whether America will be watching his speech on TV.

Geeez Springer. ](*,)

They're predicting rain so they're moving it inside.

Democrats know to come in out of the rain.

Stop trolling.

It was no secret that they were having trouble filling the stadium.

The magic from 2008 is not there today.

... and Bob .. you're the biggest troll on CEP. Stop sending me nasty private messages.

Let me get this straight - a good half of the three hundred MILLION people in America support Obama, but they wouldn't be able to fill a 75 000 stadium? Do you even read your posts before you embarrass yourself?

Stop trolling Springer. And YOU stop sending nasty messages. Grow up.

this is true-ish (I've heard that the local dems have basically just been giving tickets away to anyone who will take them)... but the Obama campaign wouldn't be the first to make a 25% empty stadium look full.

a bigger worry might have been reporters not having time to relocate their entire setups. it wouldn't be great optics to see a report from the Democratic National Convention broadcast with an empty stadium behind the reporter (nevermind the fact that the POTUS was in a different stadium).

They weren't giving tickets away, there were free tickets given as prizes. At this point they had a waitlist for tickets. I mean, as long as we're just throwing random claims with no substance...

Obama said he could stop the water from rising ... I'll assume he could stop the rain from falling too.

So the reason must be a lack of people.

The man's ego is way to large for his head -- that's why his ears stick out so far.

It's obvious you don't know what you're talking about.

Wow is all I can say...Did she Connect with the Live crowd and the TV Viewers or what?..The First Lady answered ALL of The Romney Campaign's most popular attacks so Elegantly..LOL.....Win or lose Michelle Obama has solidified her status in the Democratic Party and will go down in history as one of the most Influential First Ladies...Flotus will probably follow in the foot-steps of Bill Clinton and get many invitations to speak @ Future Conventions..Disillusioned Democrats sitting on the fence might have a hard time voting against Obama in November....

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick ROCKED that theatre and spoke the truth... I've said so many times that Dems have to STOP being Pussies, STOP being afraid to STAND for what they believe in and stand-by the historical legislation they pass. I So wish Patrick would have been seen during the 10pm hour. That was my first time seeing him get fired up like that and he should have gone after Gov O'Malley.

Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley didnt give a moving speech but he is hands-down President Obama's greatest attack/Surrogate...I've seen him in action many times.....He can Debate and stand-down any Republican on TV and he does his homework. Dems got on him because of the "Are you better off today than you were 4yrs ago?" question. Its not Martin's fault that The Obama administration SLEPT on that Question and had no talking-points for ANY of their surrogates. The campaign should have expected Commentators to begin pounding that question when Mitt put it into play last week...The Obama Administration has more than enough accomplishments to answer the question....Duh...

San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro did a good job and I enjoyed hearing about his family and how their struggle & determination help make him into the Man he is today..I will be following his Political Career..

I Loved the Ted Kennedy Tribute Video..Showing his battle against The Romeny's was PRICELESS....The Late Great Senator Kennedy gave Mitt a Mighty Blow that FINISHED his dreams of ever becoming a US Senator...Now President Obama has to Deliver the FINAL & PERMANENT blow that will RETIRE Mitt from seeking any political office. We cannot have our Country Governed by a Flip-Flopping Liar..

What a powerful 1st night...Michelle hit it out of the ball Park last night and Bubba will hit another home-run tonight...2 for 2 for sure...

It was also well-placed with the quote from Jesus. If they hear that, I bet the doubting Republicans I referenced in another thread will be tilted toward not voting for the heretic.

^ mmm hmmmm.

Nice touch there.

For all their religiousity...I certainly haven't heard Romney or Ryan quote Jesus.

You know that the Catholic Church's disagreement with Ryan's budget and his Randian philosophy has to also hurt with the thinking Christians out there.
