Dem Senators release message to LGBT youth

Where are the GOP members and Conservatives here just saying thanks for the video, for that matter.

We all know the GOP wont ever make one of these or participate in a bipartisan one.... but shit.

Where are the thanks from them that the Dems have their back?

Can't point out an enemies accomplishment? That is such a weakness in the way the two parties interact now.

So I looked for the Republican version...

Has it just not been released yet?

This video is proof, that despite the flaws of the Democrat party, they are still champions for social justice and treating all of us, as equal members of society. The Republican Party is not our friend and not our ally. They do not represent fairness and equality under the law. It will not be a Republican president or a Red Congress that will bring us equality under the law, it will be a Democratic president and Congress.

I know these statements ruffles some feathers, but let me remind the minority here that cling to the elephant: Where is the Republican Senate video telling young gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth that it's okay to be who they are, and that it will get better?

Exactly.

Yes, well said, Just_Believe. While gays and other members societal groups that have been historically repressed should feel free to support whichever political party they wish based on any policy or ideology that matters most to them, they should keep in mind that not all parties in this day and age nor all the current members within them necessarily support the idea of civil rights for all citizens. It is clear to me that many people would prefer that gays do not exist at all, much less rights for gays that are equal to the rest of the populace.

One of my personal beliefs concerning gay republicans is that at some point people have to start caring about the civil rights, health and prosperity of real, living, individual *people* not just the health and prosperity of big business, big finance, big religion, the rich and the military industrial complex.

I was just reading about Harvey Milk the other day, kinda want to watch the movie again now that I know the backstory.

I wonder if republican Senators are selling their "it gets better" videos or just releasing videos saying "it gets worse if you elect more of us!"

Just to add a couple more points...

If the Republicans, especially on the national level, were to actually support civil rights for all the citizenry at least as much as Democrats, I could then, and only then, see myself seriously considering their candidates and voting for them more frequently come election time. As it stands, the "red" party is far too beholden to intrests that practice and encourage all forms of intolerance and downright hate against innocent people for no reason other than characteristics with which their victims (yes, victims) were born.

Gays (and other wrongly maligned groups) who are members of the Republican party and who are not fiercely trying to push their party away from such intolerance and bigotry have decided on some level that key issues the Republicans support, such as lower taxes, less government spending on social programs, less spending on Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, support for large corporations, military spending, support of oil-based resources, etc, are more important than their own rights as people. That is, the rights of individual citizens, such as the right to marry who they choose, tougher laws against hate crimes and serving openly in the military among many other civil rights issues. And those are just rights concerning gays as a specific group. Don't get me started on such issues as immigration rights, workers rights, universal healthcare, education and a litany of others.

All this makes me pretty damn glad I'm an independent.
