Does anyone live with and/or suffer from depression? I'm been living with it since the 6th grade. Since coming out it has gotten worse. Although I'm currently on medication, see a psychiatrist and go to a support group, it seems that the cause is that I've never been a boyfriend. It's not like I haven't dated before, but when I want to move to the relationship/boyfriend stage, I get rejected.

Does anyone else live with depression like me?

Relationships are a LOT of work... having a BF isn't necessarily going to be the utopian life you think it will be... unless you happen to be a Disney Princess. ;) You shouldn't rely on someone else to make you happy. That's a lot of unfair baggage to place on them... especially when you yourself may not know what it is that makes you happy.

... and just because a relationship doesn't work out don't consider it a 'rejection'. It doesn't mean you did anything wrong... it just means you weren't compatible. Move on and find someone you are compatible with.

Keep trying and perhaps try to figure why you think you are being rejected. Maybe you aren't picking the right guys, or at least the type that want a bf.

Not all depression is the same. There are times when depression is a normal response- for example, we would expect someone to feel depressed after death of a family member or when a relationship ends.

For some people, depression has a biochemical aspect and for those who have depressive disorders, it takes a combination of different strategies - medication, exercise, psychotherapy, light therapy, etc- to address the underlying causes.

But there's also a difference between depression and depressive thought patterns. If you're finding yourself in the state of mind that "the world is plotting my unhappiness" and "I'm never going to have a boyfriend", then it will take a structured therapy program- like CBT- to break the cycle.

I'm here! :) Count yourself lucky you can at least date ;). If you've dated through real-life rather than the internet also, you should take some pride in that. I swear off internet dating (never have done, never will), and have never dated in my whole life (and I'm 23 as of 50 minutes ago).

KaraBulut ^ mentions CBT. I'm going to give that a try...I just have to make that appointment ;). I hear good things about it, and I also have a lot of 'issues' that it could help with. I'm more of the 'depressive thought patterns' than depression :).

Get your testosterone levels checked. Yeah, yeah, it's all the fad now, but I suffered from horrible depression since adolescence. Was on heavy duty antidepressants (MAOIs) for about 20 years until I asked the doc for test. check. Well, whaddya know? Came back way low, started replacement therapy and the depression lifted and has stayed away for a over a decade.
