Derek Chauvin has lost the the George Floyd murder trial on all three counts.

I was 100% positive of the outcome of this trial for the first time in, oh, 50 years. The time had come. but let us see how this plays out over the country. This was a test case, the first of many. We shall see how mainstream America reacts, and that will tell me everything I need to know about equal justice in this country.

Hopefully this will be the beginning of change.

I'm waiting now for republicans and the right-wing media to start playing the victim for suffering the consequences of problems that they created.

thank god---motherfucker is a real sicko needs to be locked up forever.

I hope he gets the Max and rots in hell.

I could never forget what Dr. Tobin pointed out about Floyd's struggle to survive.

This part of the testimony made me cry. Yes, I admit it. I literally cried for a man fighting to survive a sadistic act by a cop on a power trip. Floyd was resorting to using his fingers and knuckles to breathe. Think of the desperation to get air.

I believe that Chauvin is guilty, but I had some fear that there would be a sicko on the jury who would hold out and create a hung jury. It was a relief when he was found guilty. Although it is likely to be appealed, I don't think that he will win an appeal.

I just think the cop was doing his job but he should have had some back up and got floyd up and restrained in the back of the cruiser. I mean he was high off his ass on Fentanyl 11 grams when they micro dose (mcg) Fentanyl , 2 grams is enough to kill you! not to mention the meth and THC he wasn't just high he was Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds! Some of these drugs give people superhuman strength and resistance I saw a Russian guy high off his ass on bath salts nailed his nuts to a roof! This guy was NO saint pointing a gun in a pregnant womans belly, passing fake money cmon he was not turning his life around, if he was he wouldn't have been doing this shit anymore! Neither side is completely innocent but I mean we have gotten into this ridiculousness of people being faulted for doing their job, pretty soon no one is going to wanna do ANY JOB!

So good to read the verdict when I was walking home from work. All three counts, guilty!

But saddened just a few hours later, learning a teenage girl, 15 or 16 from Columbus, Ohio, was shot and killed senselessly by a cop after a call went out about someone being physically threatened and the cop winds up killing the girl..he saw a knife discarded on the ground and what, assumed she was going to attack him? When she was likely the one who was the subject of the call about someone being in need of help after being attacked? Obviously, the whole story should come out, but just getting the George Floyd murdering Derek Chauvin convicted on all three counts doesn't mean things are getting better. There's still a BIG problem. Abolishing the police would be too extreme a reaction, but god dammit this CAN'T go on. Policing and the whole concept of law enforcement and public safety require a reformulation for the 21st century, NOT mere reforms on the margins. And the ending of the militarization of the police and ending qualified immunity for police officers are essential to the solution.

the great state of Maryland is the first and thus far only to strip police of extra protection laws - this needs to happen in every state AND then they need to require a cam movie for any and every arrest - I don't think it's unreasonable - if some guilty of the most serious of crimes can get off because they were not read their rights than certainly they should have the right to have what is available in cam footage of the actual arrest - no cam - no trail - immediate release - this would put an end to police harassment and excessive use of force without accountability

This guy should never be let go and stay where he belongs in jail

Floyd served multiple jail terms for offences ranging from drugs and theft to armed robbery and was a complete undesirable by anyone's standards. However, that doesn't justify the uniformed thuggery of the police and the verdict was patently the right one. I can't imagine how long Chauvin will last in prison.

Judge Cahill is set to pass sentence on Derek Chauvin in eight weeks - the second week of June, maybe?

What I don't get is why conservatives treat this as a political thing? A man was tortured to death in broad daylight and all they could think is "us vs them libs".

When did life stop being precious to conservatives?
