I purchased a new computer desk chair and it is defective.

The Manufacturer says no returns unless it is totally unassembled and in the original box.

I can not take the gas cylinder from the base and the seat. Anybody have any idea how I can do that? So I can return it for a refund.

This is the last time I buy anything online.

I bought it from OfficeMax, but it was a special order from ZUO Modern Co.

But I bought a defective chair from OfficeMax not from Zuo Modern, so it is their job to take the item back and they fight with the manufacturer.

I called the manufacturer, and they said without a special tool, the owner can not separate the gas cylinder from the base. They are just brushing me off. I am ready to go to the attorney General with this

Thanks Hard-up, but what headache thing?
I hardly ever get headaches.

i'm the one who has a headache.....

I would try a few more phone calls to ZUO Modern Co. And OfficeMax, too.

You know what I find helps in situations like this?

Play dumb but be persistent.

Get someone on the phone, and then all you know is: my product is defective - what do I do?

Don't act frustrated, don't get angry with them, don't make any threats...but do make it clear that you're determined to bug them until they get this taken care of. ..|

If the person blows you off, just call them right back again.

Basically - annoy the shit out of them.

It's always worked for me. :D

Eventually, the person you're dealing with will be like... "Fuck it, I just want to make this guy happy so he stops bugging me..."

And they'll get it taken care of...so that they can resume barely working.

I have called there and Customer Service tells me I did not buy the chair from them so I need to call OfficeMax. They did tell me a little about how it can not be taken apart without the special tool

I will try again also. Play dumb, keep saying it's defective why can't they take it back as it is (in two boxes) since they have to undo everything to see what is wrong with the tilt mechanism anyway.

THANK YOU EVERYBODY

Scot had a couple of his Biker friends over and they pulled the two apart and Finally we got everything in one box.

And I definitely hope you go for the full refund and not a replacement chair. I'm glad to know in advance that I won't be shopping at Zuo Modern. What a pain in the ass.

You might also want to rate them as to their reliability at www.mywot.com.

Thanks for the link, I will check that out.

I am going for a full refund, and refused a replacement as I bought another chair while going back and forth with these idiots sine February 9th.

I will no longer do any business with either Zuo Modern nor Officemax.

If you paid by credit card call the card company and tell them the chair arrived defective. Contest the charge.

That will start to get some action on the part of Office Max to help you!
