Desperate Housewives starts Sept 30th!

(especially bringing up with Lee and Bob that "right, cuz you can't have kids" when she found out Rafael was their dog -- quite mean-spirited and an example of homophobia), .

WHY IS THAT HOMOPHOBIA???? SHE TOLD THE TRUTH!!!

People every supporting character, gay or straight, is introduced by conflicting head on with a main character. Everyone comes off bitchy and manipulative when you first meet them (in the show).

I don't like how there's such an obvious man and women dynamic between the couple though. I also wasn't a fan of the whole... oh Andrew was just evil because he was gay thing a while back and now they just leave him in the background. I'd much rather they developed an actual relationship between him and Ryan Carnes and he used that to bother Bree than he just be freaking evil.

I agree they took a cheap shot at making the old lady look stupid and homophobic. But it's not totally untrue. And at the end of the day, it's a comedy, not going to have much impact on society.

No, you got it all wrong. I wasn't criticizing the show for the scene itself, I just said I don't think it's funny (disagreeing with some of the posters here), because it actually happens in real life. I know someone in Missouri right now who certainly isn't laughing.

And it may not have that much of an impact, but it will have an impact, in that it will make older people think twice before letting their homophobia show, and that is a positive. I just don't find it funny, because I know that older people are a big part of the reason why we have to wait for things like non-discrimination laws, let alone marriage equality. I'd rather not have to wait for those kinds of people who simply will not change to die out... it sounds morbid, but it's ultimately what we need to do... wait things out. In the meantime, a lot of people suffer. But this scene outlined how people will use opportunities like this to hate on gays -- "Can't it be both?".

Anyway, if anything Ida's stupid comments might make a homophobe that watches the show realize how idiotic they really are.

YES!!! For once, we are in 100% agreement. :=D::=D::=D::=D::=D::=D::=D::=D:

Well, Mr. "Sean Penn", I will endeavor to explain this to you. If you watched the scene, she initially thought that Rafael was a third guy and they were in a three way relationship. Then, when she was told that Rafael was their dog, her immediate line of thinking that they're gay and they have a dog, so it's some kind of weird, twisted "substitute" for kids. That's bullshit, because they could have kids if they wanted to, and it takes a homophobic person to say "Right, because you can't have kids" (one more time where her mind went somewhere where it really shouldn't have), something that they probably wouldn't do if a single person had a dog, or a hetero couple in which one of them was sterile (or even if both of them were perfectly capable of biologically having kids). That was the one where her comments crossed over from just "mean" to mean-spirited. If a single, presumably hetero person introduced you to their dog, you probably wouldn't go "Right because you can't (or aren't fit to) have a kid.". If a hetero couple introduced you to their dog, you wouldn't assume that they were infertile and say "Right, because I'm sure one of you is probably sterile, and that's why you have a dog and no kids."

If you still want to contest this, we can go a few more rounds. I've done it before, and I'll be willing to do it as long as it takes. I maintain that those particular comments are homophobic and down right mean-spirited, and I will never change my mind on that. That was simply uncalled for on Susan's part, and that is why I was willing to give Lee the benefit of the doubt that first episode, particularly since he gave Susan credit for being nice both with the cookies and helping him look for Rafael, until he found out how deceptive she had been in both cases. And technically, she even kidnapped the dog... she's lucky no one pressed charges against her. But none of that takes away from how mean-spirited the gay guys were this last episode by turning on the fountain so early while they were sleeping, which means they couldn't have been bothering them by "yakking on the phone" with Susan's mom, grunting through Pilates videos, or "massacring the score to Brigadoon".

^ so you werent "criticizing" the scene but you dont think it's funny and you had to analyze it? I'm confused.
Like someone already mentioned, if anything, the scenes were carried out in a comical way (I'm sorry if you dont see it) and actually help ppl realize how stupid those homophobic comments are, regardless of whose mouth they come from. So, not only do I find them hilarious, they also educate the audience to think twice before speaking about gays.

You're not telling me anything new. Personally, for me, I just don't find homophobia very funny, is all. It's not the scene, it's what the scene represents, and what the scene represents is decades of hatred that has hurt the GLBT community. If the scene did some good, I applaud it, but I don't find what Ida said funny because I know how often it happens in real life and how much hurt and damage it causes. If you or anyone else wants to laugh at that, that's great... I can find plenty of other scenes in DH that are funny collectively from which I can get a full episode worth of laughs that leave me satisfied but still don't require me doing anything but taking the damage homophobia causes seriously and appreciate the contribution the scene made in something other than a humorous way.

I hope I've finally managed to explain my position to you... it requires you being able to understand that some people have different perspectives, is all. Still confused? If so, I hope in your next reply you will stop repeating stuff that I've already said in my posting, because you somehow missed when I said it myself --

Asked, and answered.

You said:

Totally, totally, redundant at this point, given that it's been said by like 8 people including me (see above) by now.

I have nothing at all against Marc Cherry.

But love him or hate him, you should try to catch a rerun of the season premier of Nip/Tuck on the fx network.

Oliver Platt plays a character called Freddy Prune, who is the show runner for a TV drama about plastic surgery that Sean and Christian are going to consult on. And he is one big ol' queen.

Even TV Guide ID'd him as a take-off on Cherry.

He first appears driving Sean and Christian through a studio lot in a golf cart. When the doctors complain about the acting chops of the series lead, Freddy tells them how popular he is with the female 18-49 demo. Then he leans back and whispers, "And he's wery popular with the gays." As if he were straighness personified.

Platt stole every scene he was in, and I believe his will be a recurring character.

Can't think Marc will be too happy about this.

It isn't that Freddy Prune (as a Marc Cherry stand-in) is gay that's so funny. That the character is gay is just a given.

It's the personality traits of the character. Believe me he doesn't come off very well, putting aside the whole gay thing.

You'd need to watch the episode to see what I mean.

Can't wait 'til that bitch gets what she deserves. She fucking reminds me of Brooke from Bold and the Beautiful.

OH COME ON!!! Edie i think is just a girl who knows how to have a good time, yes she gets around but look who she's been gettting around with Mike, Carl, Carlos...who could blame her. Brooke though...well that bitch i think is seriously disturbed. sleeping through entire FAMILIES of men, 2 brothers and their father and like 2 of her daughter's husbands. at least Edie's actually entertaining, while Brooke and everybody else on that show is boring as hell.

We see a purpose in introducing the gay couple now with them knowing about Katherine's secret

Actually, it looks like Katherine has two secrets. One from Chicago, which definitely involves her *current* husband cheating, but, from the sound of Bob and Lee's description and the fact that they were run out of town because of it, and their implication that they would have to leave Fairview as well, and two that happened in their current house on Wisteria Lane, which caused them to have to leave so fast (that seems to be a reoccurring motif with her, apparently) to move (presumably, to Chicago) and involved her first husband (and Dylan's father) molesting or attempting to molest her and is responsible for her inability to remember much of her childhood, and possibly more than that, judging by the large crack we saw in the floorboards (that apparently none of the people who owned the house in between noticed) and Katherine going so far as to kill Dylan's grandmother (or at least, let her die) so as to stop her from spilling (but of course, someone other than Katherine is bound to find that note...)

More than one person wasn't sure who the old lady was so I'll clear it up. The old lady that Katherine didn't care for was Dylan's aunt. They don't say whether it's Katherine's sister, Dylan's step fathers sister or Dylan's real father's sister. I think it's Dylan's real fathers sister since she knew about what happened 12 years ago and that Katherine didn't care for her.

I do agree that there has to be 2 secrets.

Mrs. Simms was Katherine's aunt. Dylans great-aunt.

Gimme a break. When on earth did Julie and Danielle make up and become best friends again?

Its an insult to the viewer to just assume we have a short memory span.

Why didnt Gabby mention what she overheard on her wedding day that Victor only wanted her for the Latino vote? They made it seem like its just about a divorce looking bad.

The scissors used to cut the cord was not sterile.

What happened to the pizza restaurant.

Why does it seem like Felicity is the only one that gets Emmy scenes. That last with the Possum screamed nomination.

The writers need to give everyone a fair shot at Emmy.

^^The scene between Bree and Danielle after the baby was born was also very touching.

It seems that Marcia and Felicity get most of the "Emmy worthy" scenes, while Eva and Terri get the comedy scenes.

That's pretty ironic when you think about the fact that ABC classifies DH as a comedy for Emmy purposes, yet Marcia and Felicity are the only real Emmy contenders because of their dramatic scenes.

What a great episode.

It was nice to see Susan have some dramatic scenes for a change. I think Teri Hatcher pulled it off. And I'm interested to find out what pills Mike was sneaking.

Bree and Danielle's scene after the birth was so good. I never thought Joy Lauren was a very good actress, but this episode changed my mind.
I thought it was funny that Adam knew Bree was faking her pregnancy long beofre tonight. I wonder how long he'll keep it secret?
And will Lynette's kids know that Danielle gave birth to the baby and not Bree?
Oh and Orson drunk was hilarious. "There was punch in that rum?" lol
And Andrew in drag was hilarious. Esp because Bree made him dress like that. So funny.

Lynette's storyline bugged me a little bit in the beginning, but by the end I got it. I'm happy that her cancer is gone, but does that mean Stella will be leaving soon? I love her character.

I actually felt bad for Victor tonight. For some reason his scene with Gabby in the limo got to me. I don't want Gabby to stay with him because he himself said that he only married her for the latino vote. Why didn't she bring that up?! (Or was it Victor's dad who said that? I don't remember...)

And now that Victor and Edie both know about Gabby and Carlos, I can't wait to see what happens. I have a feeling Carlos might die soon.

Lee is a smug asswipe. Bob is pretty cool. Their house looked so cool though. Too bad we didn't see the dungeon in the basement all decorated lol.

My only qualm with this episode is that we didn't see enough of Katherine. Katherine is probably one of my favorite characters and I'm already missing her when she's not around. And we still don't know what her aunt wrote in that note before she died two weeks ago. I guess its good that they're spacing the mystery out a bit, so we don't learn too much too soon.

The previews for next week look so funny. Gabby knocking Victor overboard with the oar! lmao!

The scene with Bree and Danielle, and the scene with Lynette crying over the possum were breathtaking

This season started out slow, it's really starting to get juicy :D

Which is why i dont think its fair for traditional sitcoms to compete with shows like DH. There should be a comedy category and a dramedy category. Fair is fair because its really hard for a comedic performance to compete with a dramatic one.

I wonder how long he'll keep it secret?

Until he wants something from Bree, the same way he used his info on Katherine to keep the fountain, which by the way should not have been on at night. It was running during the night in the last episode.

The scene between Bree and Danielle after the baby was born was also very touching.

Yes it was the actress that plays Danielle surprized me a little. I never saw her like this before.

Eva and Terri get the comedy scenes.

Yea, Eva had a shot at Emmy in season one with that lawnmower scene LOL that was hilarious.

Lynette's storyline bugged me a little bit in the beginning

Oh my gosh me too, i was like she needs to stop milking this cancer; but then the writers completely turned it around with that last scene. Kinda feel bad for the possum, that scene was pretty deep though alot was going on there. She got back her life the possum lost his i dont know but i got the scene.

I actually felt bad for Victor tonight.

The same Victor that only married Gabby for the Latino vote and i guess the hot sex.

LOL Andrew as Cher.

If i had written that scene i would have made Bree say, "Yes, about that, you gonna have to turn back time" LOL

Where is Danielle going? It couldnt be college already but she was packed up and outta the house.

You're thinking of two different people. Adam is the one that knows about Bree's baby. Lee [& Bob] are the couple that kept the fountain.

Re: the oppossum [sic?], I was almost tempted to tape the credits & look at them really close to see if they inserted a message like "No animals were harmed in the taping of this episode."

^

LOL yes Adam is Katherines husband LOL

I agree with you. Sitcoms and dramedies shouldn't be in the same category.

Of course, with so few good sitcoms on TV lately, finding 5 to nominate might be tough.

I think one of my favorite things about this show has been watching how Bree has grown as a person. Also she has been getting some hilarious parts as well...

The fork in the belly = hilarious
Her saying Andrew is Cher = hilarious
Taking out that woman in the department store that tried to hug her = hilarious

Anyone else agree with me?
