Des'ree sues Beyonce for covering "Kissing You"!!!!!!

I've cleaned up a couple of posts here.

Let's discuss the merits of the artists and any claims that they may or may not have against each other, and keep the kattie remarks to ourselves.

Desree´s version of the song is orginally, classic, and flawless... it is a bit of pain and desperation in her voice and the song moves through with ease...
Beyonce´s version is a rip off... unorginally, forced, but with a different type of intensity ... very typical of Beyonce.....

I like Beyonce but she deserves to get suined for copyright infringement especially when she makes a song like this... sound like a poppy remake

I agree completely. I must admit Beyonce tweaked her version but I wouldn't called it a success. She's done better jobs on using other people's songs in the past. I wonder if her people paid for them too? But at the end of the day theft is theft. Her people should pay.

You Gotto Be

Why is she only asking for $150,000?

Come on Dee'ree "You Gotto Be" tough, sue her for every penny.

I don't like Beyawnce but her cover is good BUT she needs to pay up.

1994 - You Gotto Be by Dee'ree (Almost classic)

Re: You Gotto Be

That's what I was wondering as well. I don't remember the name of the artist, but there's a sample that Christina uses on the first disc of her CD--the sample is literally a few seconds long and it just loops a few times throughout the track. I remember reading an article where she said that after just a few months of the album being out, she'd received tens of thousands of dollars in the mail already. And that was just a sample.

Here we're talking about an entire track.

I dunno, but it certainly does make her case look more rational, since she isn't asking for a ludicrous sum of money, like she just wants her due.

The point is, nothing was ever finalized before, during, and after the recording and release. That means that Beyonce and her people never had the go ahead to release the song on the album. So there's nothing more Des'ree could than say no, which she and her people did.

After listening to both, if we want to compare the songs, Des'ree wins this hands down.

She sings this song soulfully, sings it with depth of emotion, and sings it like she's crafting something she cares about. It's sublime.

Beyonce's was forced, like mentioned above, and seemed like the exact same kind of emotion she always sings...she sings it like she knows when it's supposed to be sad and she can tell that she's trying to be sad, not that the way she sings is genuinely tinged. Plus, the over dramatic, over-lyrical part really pushed it into something else. Did she want it to be sad a sweet and tender? Because she completely blew it up into some melodramatic thing...I feel like this is just like the other songs on her album, they can easily pass by without a second thought. It doesn't hook you.

BEyonce's version is ok.. Not Bad ..but Des'ree verison is a classic ..it's so beautiful ..But yeah Beyonce needs to paid up she knew better than..

I don't see the point of covering a song if you're going to do it in EXACTLY the same style as the original - everyone's heard it before. Beyonce's sounds like an exact remake of Desree's, it shows no originality whatsoever - and for that I think Desree SHOULD sue. As someone else has said, the fact that she's not suing for an exorbitant amount shows she's not doing it as a grab for money. Beyonce/her people/whoever were wrong to use the song without permission, and so they should be made to pay. Copyright laws exist for a reason.

Let's face facts here.

Beyonce is more popular than Des'ree ever was.
Beyonce is hotter.
Beyonce's version is newer.

Thus, Beyonce's version is superior.

End of story.

What??? Where does Victoria Beckham come into this??

I guessed it was old news...
The song Resentment was originally recorded by Miss Beckham, but BigB changed a little the lyrics so that she could get writing credit...
Before Beckham, the song had been already recorded by another girl.

Awful cover, awful video clip. The more I learn about Beyonce the less I like her and her music.

Sorry Lex, but I don't see these reasons as valid when it comes to whose version is better.....

>>>None of those reasons will ever make a song better than another!
They are all superficial.

>>>Sorry Lex, but I don't see these reasons as valid when it comes to whose version is better...

Then I hope, for your sakes, you don't have jobs in the music industry.

I just got to the bit where she's just yelling "I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU!"...Not that she's trying to force it or anything. It's bollocks. And Des'ree has a right to sue, its a matter of principal. If she'd butchered it and it was Beyonces original, her camp would be going mental too.

Des'ree still has credibility outside of America. Nutter Knowles is rapidly becoming her own side show...

Somewhere along the line she found out that writing is where the real money is and ever since she and her father have sought to get writing credits.

She was billed as the 4th writer on "Listen" which mean she really didn't do anything.
