Here's part of the statement that Governor Mark Sanford's wife Jenny Sanford released late this afternoon:

http://www.thesunnews.com/news/breaking_news/story/952470.html

She told him to get out and not to contact her or the boys 2 weeks before father's day. Then she claimed not to know where he was when his staff and the media couldn't reach him during the past week.

So did she sabotage his political career?

What should she have done? Cover for him? If she knew he was cheating on her, and told him to get out, and didn't legitimately know where he was when asked ... what did she do wrong, exactly?

I don't think it matters for her, she put her family first

even over her husband's ambitions

that's commendable

did it hurt his career?

What hurt his career is the fact that he was sticking it where he wasn't supposed to stick it...

stop blaming the wife for his behavior, it's wrong and misogynistic

it's still wrong, she chose her family over politics

and he chose to travel to Argentina ever staying, or even going on a hike...

She has the right to be mad, and has the right to ask for space, she was cheated on by her husband

His choice over what to do after his wife reacted that way, understandably, demonstrates the kind of man he truly is.

7/10 Black voters in CA voted for prop 8. Even other, once oppressed, minorities won't side with gays. I don't see you guys pointing out every black VIP who has cheated, calling them a "hypocrite".

You mean you missed the 13-page "What the hell were those nigg-- I mean black Californians thinking?!" thread?

From what I can tell this thread isn't about "unfaithful republicans", it's not even really about Gov. Sanford, this thread is about his wife who is also (somewhat of) a political figure. Relax girl, breathe.

^ I agree. Relax. Re-read the OP.

Stop jumping to the defense of the embattled Republicants.

First of all I'm not a girl. I'm very much a man, don't forget it.

So you not only take the republicans too seriously, you take yourself too seriously as well. Here's a hug boo. (*8*)

I'm breathing just fine and I'm perfectly relaxed but thanks for your concern:rolleyes:. These threads take on new directions that may not be exactly what the OP intended.

Oh, so you were just jumping the gun. ..|

Try expanding yourself and going along with it. There have been many recent threads in this forum that seem to point this "hypocrite" label on unfaithful Repubs. while avoiding the hypocracy amoungst Democrats.

Honey welcome to CE&P. You MUST be new if this discreet albeit blatant partisan war is news to you.

If you felt that it was irrelevant you would have been wise to ignore my post. And since you have offered no counter points to what I have stated you've added zero to this thread by replying. Perhaps your breathing so much you are experiencing an oxygen high.

Sounds about right.

>does another line of oxygen<

Yes I did miss that thread. Did they discuss unfaithful black VIPs and label them as "hypocrites"?

Honeychilesistagirl they called us everything under the sun. "How dare they" this and "Just goes to show ya" that. It goes in cycles. When it's not blacks or republicans it's Christians or Muslims. If you came here for intelligible, unbiased discourse you're about 10 months too late.

Your best bet is to start your own topics. I had a good one going about the end of the civil war in Sri Lanka but the Mods closed it, I think 'cuz I was the only one posting in it and I kept quoting myself. ](*,)

Not at all. Just setting you straight.

Honey if Olamide couldn't do it in the 8th grade and Danielle couldn't do it Freshmen year... oh, that's not what you meant. !oops!

There are many educated and intelligent people here I have read who are able to acknowledge the faults of both parties without blind alliegance.

:rotflmao: @ "many." That was cute..

Perhaps I will. However, if I feel inclined to call threads out on their inherent stereotypes I will continue to do so without regard to your acceptance or rejection of their timeliness or relevance to the topic;).

What stereotype is being perpetuated here, the manipulative wife? Unclean didn't mention republicans, I don't even know if Mrs. Sanford IS a republican, and she's the topic at hand.

You're gonna derail a lotta good topics if you always go charging in with your phasers set on "Kill." That gets annoying VERY quickly.

I've read through the thread; so I'm aware of the argument that Ms. Sanford is something of political operative.

To answer the original post--No, I don't think she sabotaged him. I agree with those who have said that what she did was reasonable and honorable. The sabotaging was done by the Governor all by himself.

It is a little complicated. The sterotype is that Republicans are somehow socially backward, anti-gay hypocrites.

Oh really? Thanks for pointing that one out for me.

Now, this thread, per se, isn't as bad as the others. It just happened to be the one I was reading when I had the inclination to make an observation. Besides I think the ideas posed in my reply are much more interesting than did she sabotage?

I wouldn't bet the barn on that.

Who cares what his wife did.

Obviously the OP does and he has good reason to. I dunno if she did this on purpose but he's absolutely right that she's not just some bimbo wandering aimlessly, her career has been calculating moves, I doubt she'd fumble through something like this.

What is this the scorned lovers thread now? Least I brought the thread some political discussion.

Late much? Partisanship isn't even political discussion anymore, it's the general atmosphere here.

If I annoy people, well, probably was no more annoying than the ignorance of the premise of their posts.

The term "ignorance" is soooo overused. And misused. The irony is more delicious than 100 republicans sucking 100 dicks in 100 airport terminals.

I don't care if she fleeced him or not. His wife is a non-issue to me.

Hate to break it to you but she's the topic at hand.

This is a politics and current events thread not perezhilton.com or an episode of Desperate Housewives.

She's not a desperate house wife she's his campaign manager. Well, was. You are aware that women are capable of more than birthin' babies, right?

You are aware that the housewives depicted on ABC's Desperate Housewives are all very dynamic women, capable of doing more than "birthin' babies" right?

No, I wasn't aware, I haven't ever watched the show. That was a great little review you wrote there, who knew jocks watched Desperate Housewives?

No it actually isn't. I am pointing out the delusion of this thread/forum that somehow Republican politicans that cheat are "hypocrites" more than anyone else.…

I understand what you are saying, chilljockchi.

I am not sure how best to explain to you our differences. But I will provide a link for you to two videos that you may find informative and insightful.

P.S. Please make sure you view them both!

I would say yes. She didn't care that he disapeared and she didn't even show up to his press conferences.

I could not say whether she cared.

I do like that Mrs. Sanford refrained from being there. The thing is: Other cheating politicians' wives have been on camera with their hubby announcing in front of the press his indiscretions. And perhaps this is one woman who did not want, nor say yes to, that experience.

most of the other wives show up at the press conference to show they are staying with their husbands.

Sanford's wife might be preparing for a divorce. I don't think she cares to stay his wife.

chilljockchi, the reasons posters in this forum like to bash Republicans for their hypocrisy go way beyond their opposition to gay marriage. The GOP has been hijacked by the Religious Right, family values cabal and their judgmental, moralizing attitude is woven into the fabric of the GOP and its platform. Not only do they oppose gay marriage as a party (with refreshing exceptions by some Republican politicians who will never run for office again), they criticize sex education, equal rights for women, Hollywood sex on screen, abortion and those doctors who provide abortions, atheists, permissive liberals in the Northeast and on the West Coast, etc. Their leaders blamed feminists, abortionists and gays for bringing the wrath of God down on New York City and allowing the 9/11 terrorists to attack the World Trade Center, and blamed New Orleans immoral residents who allowed gay pride marches in their city, thus resulting in God's retribution in the form of Hurricane Katrina. I could go on, but you get the point. The Democrats, despite their insufficient support as a party for gay marriage, cannot even begin to achieve the level of hypocrisy of the Republicans. I hope this explains, to your satisfaction, why Republican bashing isn't surprising or out of line on this forum.

I don't know about Mrs. Sanford, but this whole episode is so strange I wouldn't be surprised by anything. Is she an innocent victim protecting her family, or a Lady Macbeth who's pissed that her plans went awry? Who knows? Maybe he sabotaged himself to get out of running for President; his crazy behavior seems consistent with that, but again, who knows?

On the other issue: the fact that this has to do with a marriage has clouded the issue, so here's an analogy. Were some office holder caught smoking pot, I wouldn't care; I would care if the centerpiece of their campaign was an anti-drug crusade. Similarly, the Republican party has made "family values" a centerpiece of their advocacy; thus, for most Republicans having an affair is far more germane than for most Democrats.

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, what makes this issue most damning for Sanford is that this affair directly led to dereliction of duty.

In any case, it's a myth that only Republicans get hammered over this stuff. John Edwards is disgraced and finished as a public figure. Remember him?

She might be royally pissed at the fact that her husband of 20 years, and father of her 4 children decided go get himself a mistress...

and that when she asked for a trial separation, to analyze things and reconsider, he took a plane to Argentina for a booty call... is that what he meant when he said he wanted to reconcile with his wife?

But the original point, that she is hurting his political career is moot.

when you disappear (and tell no one) and go to another country, continent, actually another Hemisphere for a booty call, and get caught, your political career is OVER!

No matter your political affiliation.

No matter what she could have said, in favor, or against, he IS done!

PERIOD

I don't think that what she said hurt his more, or less...
