  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Differences between the different races in the US.

And don't tell me I'm imagining this. I've been observing this phenomenon for years. Everyone I've talked to about this has shared the same observation. The only people who deny this are either ultra-PC liberals or people who pander to white people themselves.

Aka. Dont respond to this thread if you have an opposing opinion or different point of view.

If this is how your threads are going to be, why not just post this stuff on your facebook wall? Perfect place for it.

Zombie, you should watch "joy luck club" if you haven't.
"so many spots on his face" LOL

I don't know where you live but Asians are slowly taking over where I live---they are in TV commercials, politics, finance. fashion, art everywhere---there are plenty of Asians who only like to date other Asians and plenty who like something different from themselves---I'm in the later group--I'm attracted to Asians because they are different from me---and i am not alone.

Zombiekiller, I think that you have a valid point. I have seen articles about Asians being achievers before. I think that learning English is one way that they try to adapt and get ahead. I have also heard about them excelling in studies. I don't have much experience with Asians so I cannot give you any other answers.

It's sad that I as a black man know more about (some) Asian cultures than an actual asian person.

I guess I should be thankful you didn't make a bold - and wrong - leap about blacks, less "those two" be up in your crack.

Well, I would argue that assimilation is a good thing, but my observations tell me these people are doing more than just assimilating. They are embarrassed of their own roots.

I don't think it's any secret that I am damn proud of my family and of our humble past. Out of us 5 kids, we have 2 department heads in their respective companies, a mathematician doing nuclear research, a project manager at a major insurance company, and a middle manager at an engineering firm. It literally took us a quarter of a generation to go from having to sleep all day to not feel hungry when there's no food for the day to where we are now.

No matter how much my brothers and sisters try to get their kids to speak our language to their grandparents (my parents), the kids still resiliently speak English.

This is why I envy people of Hispanic descent. Somehow, they are able to get their kids to embrace their roots.

Maybe some people are more interested in embracing opportunity than roots.

Oh good.... another race thread on JUB.

Surprisingly, I think I can relate with zombiekiller's nieces and nephews. When I was in school, I resented having to study Welsh; it's spoken by a minority within a backwater country of three million people and apart from toddlers and five people in Patagonia, everyone who speaks it is also fluent in English. Meanwhile, there doesn't seem to be anything worth watching on the Welsh TV channel and our arts festivals, our eisteddfodau, seem to celebrate the country's heritage, without showcasing new art that will be appreciated by the outside world.
What ever country zombiekiller's family comes from is surely bigger than that and the cultural differences involved must be wider too. For all I know, it could be China. But what cultural significance could it have for children in America?

I don't think it is surprising at all. I don't go running around in a kilt playing bagpipes all the time. I am a citizen of our global cultural space, and though I have affection for the culture of my biological ancestors, I don't see it as appropriate to be insular about it.

I might be the minority of minority since I haven't forgetting my root
