From what I see, there is a huge difference of aesthetics toward women between the eastern and western worlds. Attached pic is Yan Lv who is a super model in the fashion world. The French and American think she is so so beautiful and represent the eastern beauty while most Asians consider her "ugly"( purely from looks, however I really like her confidence, temperament and straightforward).

Are long thin eyes and flat nose the Eastern beauty to Western people. In the film, Mulan, Chinese women were also depicted in this way.

I think she's interesting more than beautiful; the shape of her face, the strong bone-structure, those long long eyes... and "interesting" sells more magazines than "beautiful" in the Western world.

She certainly wouldn't make it as a model in China... too bony, too strong-looking. Chinese models tend to be softer-looking, rounded and sort of kittenish.
