There is an interesting story. Do you understand why he "likes the Jews"? As a fundamentalist 'born again' he believes that before the "second coming" can take place one of the pre-conditions is that the Jews must rule over Israel...Including the what is now the West Bank etc. (I think?)

There are obviously other political reasons to "make nice" but the religious angle is interesting to me. His comments to the UN about other's practicing 'respect for the dignity of other creeds' got my eyebrows elevated.

Quite aside for the man's moral deficit I can't understand why more Americans aren't up in arms (literally ) about the economic mess he has reigned over. Do you know what has happened to the value of your currency in the last 6 years? The impact that has had on your already dismal trade deficit? The debt and deficit in general and how long it's going to take to pay it off? Economic growth compared to the other G8 nations? This stuff will take a few years to rear it's ugly head in terms of it's full impact on Jane and Joe average. Make no mistake, at some point Americans are going to be saying WTF!!??

I'm not sure I understand this. How does the Constitution extend beyond the borders? If you travel to Canada and are arrested for carrying a gun, your Constitution won't get you out of jail.

you can't really blame jackroe...you gotta understand that we americans are a country built by murderers and robber barons...so long as the side that we support wins, we don't really care how they did it. as furious as i am at the republicans, i'm more furious that the demorats lack the guts to do what they have to do to win...by being tough and mean and just as corrupt if necessary. like it or not, that's how things work here and i just don't understand what happened to the democrats with balls like LBJ and FDR...we gotta stop whining and start mudslinging...

It was a joke. I was making fun of us impudent Americans who think that we should be allowed to make the rules wherever we go--whether that applies to carrying guns or controlling the behavior of others. I realize it wasn't a very good joke, but please don't take it too seriously.

He is leaving but sadly not as a consequence of his taking us into the Iraq debacle. If that were the case he would have resigned years ago. He's only leaving because he (allegedly) cut a deal with Gordon Brown a few years ago to let him be his successor, and was dumb enough to state after the last election that he would not serve the full term.

What's not to get? The idea that Americans are all violent gun nuts is a staple of Canadian comedy. Didn't anyone see the Kids in the Hall where Dave Foley explained what a Canadian was? "Like an American, only without a gun." Haha. I used to take offense and point out that there are lots of places in the US where guns are actually far less common than in Canada, but now I just say in a deadly serious sinister voice that I wouldn't poke fun at Americans or we might just shoot you. Or sit on you and crush you to death with our gigantic fat asses. Which of course we all have from eating at McDonald's every day.

Almost the entire U.S. government sucks. Most of them are corporate bootlickers, corrupt and lieing through their teeth whenever they say something. Bush is a horrible U.S. president and under his (or under Cheney's) regime, the U.S. has transformed into a power-hungry, unilaterally acting, militarized, christian semi-theocracy. I used to be a fan of the U.S. as a country - after 9/11 even more so than before. Not so today. The last 5 years of Bush & Dubyaco were a curse on the world and have caused a lot of damage.

Many Americans also think they're god's own gift to mankind and everyone else is supposed to bow before them, when they happen to visit foreign countries. Not all are like that, but especially military personnel is like that.

I am not sorry that it's Americans dieing in Iraq. I am sorry that it's Iraqis dieing in Iraq after Bush's failed adventure which turned into the quagmire it is today. Their country is disintegrating in civil war and all Bush has to say about that is "Oh, they're alright. Their country is wonderful and there is no civil war. Bla bla bla". The U.S. population is oftentimes blinded by propaganda that our very own Joseph Göbbels could not have done better during the Nazi dictatorship in my country.

I hope that the democrats take over the government soon and bring back a likable president such as Bill Clinton. No more Bush! use razors in the future to prevent such an idiot from ever becoming American president again!!
