Update on this. We took him to the vet near by. They haven't heard anyone looking for a dog like this. The vet checked the dog and said he is defintely about 4 months old. A little malnourished, but nothing to worry about.
he's so cuuuute.....so....are you going to keep the little scamp? what you gonna name him? Gulliver? cuz he was travelin? get it? see what i did there...

Or maybe name him Vannie. But don't feed him stuffed cabbage.

My better half and I drove through the countryside last night. We found a stray puppy walking on the side of the road. We stopped and called him and he came over to us. No collar or anything on him.
We called the county and they sent an officer out. We thought he was sent out to take the dog to a shelter. When the officer got there, he told us they do not have a shelter and he recommended us to either let the dog loose or take him with us.
We have been thinking of getting another lab because ours is getting really old.
Should we just keep him or somehow try to find the owner? We are only passing through this state so we will not be here much longer.
Obviously, I am conflicted. It will be hard to try to find the owner. The area is literally all fields and the hills have eyes kinda feel. And we are just passing through. On the other hand, if I lost a puppy I would want him back.
I also meant to ask about your older lab, your "home" dog. Male or female? Adapting to Maxy, or not so much?
I'd like to tell you about our "rescued" German Shepherd, and all the people, and various pets, that she gallantly put up with. However, I don't want to get into writing a novel ...
Go to all the local vets with a photo and description of the pup and explain the situation. Ask them to put up a flyer with a number to reach you in case one of the vets gets a visit from the owner(s). Also leave contact info with the police in case the owners contact them as well. Then take the dog with you and care for it like it is your own. Be prepared to give the dog up if the owners do contact you, if not you have yourself a new pup.
