Last night was the first time in over 2 years that we had been out with another couple...cousin's ex and his wife.

It was a deliciously expensive and celebratory occasion, great food, good wine and so much to tell that it took us an hour to place our food order.

My God I have missed this; the first night where we have laughed so much and so hard and teared up moments later because of the losses we've not been able to share in person.

Have you been able to get together with long lost friends yet?

Actually she was great, the moment that we told her that it was the first time in two years that we had been together....she gave us all the room we needed.

And she got to participate in a lot of the laughs as well...as well as getting a wicked tip.

It was a return to the world.
 
Oh yes.

We had a fireside meal in the oak-beamed dining room of a country inn on the bank of a river fringed by weeping willows.

I had a starter of ox cheek and ox tail croquette with beer-pickled onion salad and truffle mayonnaise.

Then pork belly and crackling in an apple cider sauce with spiced red cabbage and scalloped potatoes.

Washed down with cloudy house cider and Drambuie.
 
Oh... yes. And the human company was nice, too.

Sorry, food tends to take over!
 
Not yet, I'm still doing my best to walk up straight after a month of being in a hospital bed.

I'll be out on the ran dan as soon as i can.

Seriously, the last time I was in a restaurant for dinner, Operation Desert Storm was still in the news.
 
No, I don't dine out that much, but I have attended a few performances and shows in theaters and public spaces. This is the first week that I have gone without a mask although I carry it with me just in case.

I am not sure when or if I will ever return to indoor dining.
 
I've been eating out with my other half regularly since whenever the last lockdown ended, including twice last week. The bars and restaurants in Birmingham seem as busy as ever.

You are not missing out on anything. Last time for me was about 4 years ago. When my brother and his wife came to visit, they would always take me (and my mother) to a "fancy" restaurant. That last time it was so crowded I had to walk a few blocks due to lack of parking. Then, the at the restaurant it was nauseatingly pretentious not to mention staggeringly expensive with small portions (they always paid). They waitress was nice and professional but I couldn't help but notice a veneer of fakeness from her because it's all about the tip.
I told my brother no more restaurant outings for me. As a bonus, I'm not too fond of his wife so I get to see less of her.
 
once me and my 3 best friends got vaccinated we ate in restaurants ---so almost a year now.
 
^ Since getting fully vaxxed just a few days over a year ago, I estimate I've eaten at least forty restaurant meals. This does NOT count a number of meetups now (about twenty?) since the group resumed, where we now play Scrabble at a gaming space in the suburbs, where I usually get a cappuccino and sometimes a bowl of soup.

That sounds like one of those £200 meals which looks incredible on the menu, then you end up with 30-gram portions on everything and you walk out hungry. French place, right?

I've done very little theater/theatre stuff. but I DID go to see COME FROM AWAY in a fairly crowded venue two weeks ago. Highly recommended to everybody - it's probably the "brightest silver lining" to happen on NineElevan, and one of the most magical Canadian stories ever.

Yeah, you KNOW about COVID. I am throwing some caution to the winds, because I'm not whole if I don't "live SOME life" out there. I have to admit that I felt rather uneasy Wednesday-last-week being inside a restaurant in Quincy, Illinois where I seemed to be the only masked person, and there were over 100 people in the place. But, five days later and I'm still OK. Two weeks earlier, I probably would have walked out. I have to admit, the food was most certainly worth it. The place had 76 reviews and averaged to 4.5 stars on Yelp, and I thought "YEAH, this is my place!"

The genuine southern fried chicken was some of the best chicken I've ever had! That's a very weak spot for me, lol.

Gosh no, not at all. Just a British country pub with an excellent reputation for food and local produce. Good, hearty, rustic cooking but done with more elegance and finesse. My meal in total came to just under £30.

And the portions were generous. Believe me, by the end of the evening I had no room inside left to spare; I almost had to be fork-lifted out of the place.

I forgot about Five Guys - I have eaten there maybe 10 times since the summer of 2020 after I had covid. I always eat outside in the huge outdoor patio area though - even before covid - and the tables are all far apart anyway.
