Dining Out

No still haven't been out to sit down and eat! In truth I want to but I also don't want to because I have asthma I had the rona once I really do not want it again i was so scared I was going to end up in the hospital! As a matter of fact we all had it! So I can speak for my whole fam when I say With absolute certainty NEVER AGAIN!

Hacarmel Kosher Restaurant
Mother India (Indian)
Kam Yin (Surinamese Chinese)
The Bird Snackbar (Thai)

I grew up with Indonesian influences because my Frisian grandparents' cook was from Indonesia and understood dishes and she taught my grandmother everything important about cooking in the early 1930's before WWII when she left and the household got very small.

I have a jar (of no culinary worth at all now) of a spice blend that my grandmother brought to Canada with her in 1951....I know what is in it, but it has no taste or aroma really at all.

But we have no frame of reference for Surinam-ian cuisine, because we just haven't had a place to try it.

So this is where we will go with you.

I make an effort to dine out once in a while, even though I hardly enjoy it, or anything else for that matter.

Last night was the first time in over 2 years that we had been out with another couple...cousin's ex and his wife.

It was a deliciously expensive and celebratory occasion, great food, good wine and so much to tell that it took us an hour to place our food order.

My God I have missed this; the first night where we have laughed so much and so hard and teared up moments later because of the losses we've not been able to share in person.

Have you been able to get together with long lost friends yet?

I live in a small rural community. The Covid shutdown lasted about 3 to 5 months here. Then places were allow to open in inside dining at 25% capacity until the end of 2020. I started going back at the fast food inside dining as soon as it was allowed. No body really wears a mask in this part of the State unless you are in a medical facility. Being in a school, church or school sporting event would be about the only place there are "mass crowds". I carry a mask in my pocket at all times just in case I need to go into a place that asks you to wear a mask. As of a couple of weeks ago (I don't watch the stats anymore) our hospital (which is a regional medical center) had no covid patients.

I do go to the fast food places about 4 or 5 times a week. But since I'm not in a hurry I always go mid-afternoon when they are not busy. It is not very often I go to a restaurant with friends but I am willing to do it. Unfortunately, I never went much even before covid.

I forgot about Five Guys - I have eaten there maybe 10 times since the summer of 2020 after I had covid. I always eat outside in the huge outdoor patio area though - even before covid - and the tables are all far apart anyway.

My friend lives across the street from a Five Guys. Imagine that.

Once a month I go there and we go back to his apartment where I sit on his couch with a lap full of burgers, fries, ketchup and mayo. It's my monthly excursion into really bad eating and that's fine. In fact, I'm going there tomorrow and am currently vibrating with anticipation.

It is the only time and place I eat french fries or beef of any kind. Usually the smell of beef makes me a little sick but their beef doesn't smell bad to me. I like the french fries cooked in peanut oil too.

^ Same with me! Of course, ground beef is the worst kind of beef you can eat, but if it's infrequent, that's okay. Their fries are so good, as long as they aren't soggy. I eat those fuckers smothered in mayo. If I'm gonna eat badly once a month, might as well go all the way. I do draw the line at bacon and Tide pods.
