Hi Guys,
We are getting ready to switch from Dish Network to Direct TV. Anyone have any pros or cons they'd like to pass on.
Thanks in advance,
Dio

I'm eager to hear this too! I'm ready to get rid of cable and don't know which one to use!

I researched them both pretty thoroughly when I was switching away from cable. I ended up choosing DirecTV because I felt the price was better for what I was getting. I was also pleased to be able to get the National Geographic Channel where I wasn't able to get it with DishNetwork. My extended family all have DishNetwork so I get to use their systems frequently and I truly feel that DirecTV's DVR is way more user friendly. Best Wishes in whatever you decide!! :)

Direct TV is the worst company I've ever dealt with - They claimed I missed a payment which didn't, I evan sent a copy of the cancelled check. For over two years they harassed me with two collection agencies and three different lawyers threatening me with a law suit. Also don't forget if you have bad weather in your area you most likely will miss a lot of programs, as the satellite reception through cloudy skies sucks

Thanks for the responses all,
We have been a Dish network customer for years, but recently inquired about HD. You're not going to believe this.

Dish sent out a tec. to upgrade us. He gets there and says he can't get the signal for the HD sattelite. So he says we need to trim some trees.
Next morning on the phone machine previous tech says to hold of on the tree trimming they are sending another guy out. He comes out and says we have a signal, however we were wanting a switch that would cost him 200$ so they will let Dish do it "Internally" the other guy was a sub contractactor. Well finally the last guys show up. They say we need to do trimming again. I SAY FUCK DISH NETWORK!!! That is just too much stupidity and incompetence for me to handle. This will be our first Direct TV experience. Hope it's a good one. I'll let you know after that 16th

I had dish for years until verizon fios came to town...it was the best. i know dish wanted an arm and a leg to switch over to HD. Fios Hd was great with lots of great channels. Now i have moved and have TW cable which sux. I will be moving to a new house and will have to get satellite, so I too will be trying to decide which route to go. I knot direct has a great new dvr so that's a consideration. rio let us know how direct goes and how you like it.

When I recently moved, I switched from DirecTV to Dish. DirecTV would never address their issue with the receiver that I was having. Also the signal strength was always low, even with a properly aligned dish and a clear view.

Here is the kicker about Dish, it will use the existing cable wiring that you have. With Direct, you need two cables coming into the DVR (in order to have two tuners). Dish only needs one cable, plus you can set it up to be viewed on other TVs in the house across the same wiring. Have not done this yet, but will in the future.

I think that Dish has a better DVR than Direct.

I know that I made the right choice in switching from Direct.

we have had both and I would never ever have Direct in my life.

Dish is so much better and packages are great, equipment always works, prices are competative, and billing errors are handled quick.

we had nothing but trouble with direct, there tech's always screwed up, billing was a nightmare, there program packages suck, There HD channels are much better on Dish the DVR from Dish is way better also..

I would never ever use, recommend, but, anything related to Direct.

Go with Dish...

My family has had both Dish and Direct TV and I must say that I like Dish Network better. We only lose signal a couple of times a year and that's during very very very heavy snowing. 1 time of those 2 that happened last year was only because too much snow had accumulated on the dish. A simple broom did the trick to get it back and working.

I also like that with dish, you can have 1 receiver for two rooms and you don't get charged an additional room for that. Meanwhile Direct TV, charges you per box, so if you want to watch TV in two different rooms, you have to pay for 1 box + 1 free box.

Brief update. Direct came and got everything installed. No problems with HD satellites we were able to get a good signal. Happy so far.

The guy that installed it looked a bit like Jeff Gordon.
