It has been six full months since I finished my degree. I find myself struggling to see my future. It was supposed to be easier than this. For several years now, there's been talk of passing the business on to me when the owners are ready to retire. I don't know if I can hold out that long. I haven't received a raise in over a year, the only thing left to cut is payroll and I'm the only one on payroll. Outside of the owners and one repair tech, I'm the only person working in the store. I know the same thing is happening to small businesses all over the country so I should stop bitching...
I've got the opportunity to begin some other work outside of the store and I think I'm going to take it. It won't be much but it will be fun and interesting. Doing the same thing everyday for 8-10 hours can get really old, really quick. I'm trying to keep myself busy during the days, but without customers it just makes it that much more frustrating. Oh well. The only thing I can do now is consider myself lucky I still have a job (at least for the moment) and keep on going. The roller coaster that has become our economy must either put on the brakes soon or end in a fiery crash. Whatever the outcome, it will be whole new world on the other side.
