Hey Kids..

Get a load of this shit. I finally leave the house after being snowed for two days and head to the gym.I get to the parking lot of the shopping center the gym is located in and what a clusterfuck this place is.Cars are parked all over the damn place, some in spots, many not. There are 15 foot piles of snow all over the place.

Anyways,I park in a line of cars that were all parked outside of designated, marked off spots.I shrug and figure they will get it sorted out once they get dug out and I go into the gym.Not before I lock my coat containing my wallet and cellphone in the trunk of my car.

A couple of hours later I emerge from the gym into 30 degree weather to bump into a helpful stranger asking me if I am looking for my car. I respond that I am, and he informs me the tow truck drivers just had a feeding frenzy in the lot and towed off a bunch of cars, mine included.

Ok,I shoulda seen that one coming I guess, seeing as I know the crazed, predatory nature of scumbag tow truck drivers.I shoulda known better.Anyways.I call the local Police Department and speak with the Desk Sergeant, and he's next to useless. It's like a big secret who towed my car and where it is.Finally, after 10 minutes,I am able to extract from him,the name of the company that towed it along with a phone number. But,the Officer cautions,as if he knows the guy, I won't be able to reach him for several hours or possibly monday because ''Jack is out of service."I says,''why is Jack out of service and how where you able to get him out here to tow my car if he's not taking calls?" I couldn't get a reasonable reply to my inquiry..So I call this dirtbag, and of course it goes right to his answering machine..

I'm not sure how much this is going to cost, but if it's anything like in the past, these fucking roaches are going to tow the car 20 miles to some yard to rack up the milage charge and then, since they don't answer their phone, I'll be hit with ''storage fees."

Seeing as I'm getting a new car next saturday,I'm half tempted to tell them to drive the car up their ass, after I get my few belongings out it.I'd rather rent a car for the week than give these pricks a dime..

I don't imagine they can legally prevent me from getting my coat and few belongings out of the car, but if they come up with some crazy charge, they just got a 27 year old Chevy out of the deal.Or as I call it, the ''Love Machine.''

Anybody know anything about this type of thing.Cause I really don't want to spend several hundred to get a car out, that I'll only be driving for 5 more days.

I think the rules for car towing must be different where you live. That sounds like chaos.

You should spring for a lawyer just to ask what might happen if you kiss the car goodbye.

In some jurisdictions, people whose cars have been towed and abandoned in impound lots are denied registrations for second sets of wheels (and some places won't renew driver's licences).

Yeah, I'll call my Dad.He's as close as I can get to affording a lawyer.

“Jack is out of service” sounds really suspicious. I wonder if he has business license, permits, or any legal support/authority to do what he’s done.

The whole thing is a load of shit.I wouldn't care so much, but it'd be nice if they at least answered the damn phone..lol. That way,I can get an idea on how much it will be, and do a cost analysis of getting the car out versus renting one for the week. It'd probably be about the same.

It does seem a rather lowly way for the car to ''go out'' though. It's been a very, very good car and deserves much better..sigh..

When Kharma (aka knucklehead) comes around to the tow company...

Fill us in on the details...

:lol::lol::lol:

My CARma ran over your Dogma....Just before it got towed!

Ahh, I'll probably get a ''riff raff'' scene done on me.Remember the old cartoon ''Underdog?" In the opening credits,a character mnamed ''Riff Raff" grabs unsuspecting pedestrians and turns them upside down and shakes all their money out of their pockets..

It'll probably be something like that.I'm torn here, torn I say.Part of me wants to say fuck em, and let them keep it,but the other part of me wants some kind of dignified end for the car..

Rust Never Sleeps.

Thanks Josh,that was deep..lol

I would call the shopping center management. Who called the tow truck? Is there just some kind of standing agreement between them? Were you limited in where you could park because of the way the lot had been plowed? Was it posted that parking outside of the designated spots was illegal?

Sounds like a Republican conspiracy;)

Btw...tows from shopping centers are usually private affairs by an agent engaged by the center. That would explain why the police were no help. As it is a private matter I'd be worried they could prevent you from removing anything without paying the fine.

That sucks Kenny.
Its all a racket and you can bet the state gets a part of the fee.
After all they set the allowable rates.
The same rates that a wrecker company gets for being on call such as a late night accident on the interstate they get for trolling lots when its slow. Its such bullshit.
I was at a Halloween party and it was packed. Was told by the mgnt it was okay to park across the street in the abandon strip malls 60 acre vacant lot. So I did.
Got drunk and got a ride home with a friend. Of course the next morning my pickup was towed. $150.00 to tow it 2-1/2 miles plus a extra $20.00 because it was a Sunday.
That Halloween party sucked.

Definitely sounds like a local scam going on.

Might be worth a letter to your State's Attorney General, describing exactly what you just told us - including the desk officer's comment about the guy being "out of service" for awhile. That's pure bull shit, even if you were parked in a towable area. Personally, if it was a private parking lot, I'd complain to the gym management - it wasn't your fault their lot wasn't parkable in legal spaces.
And, there's always the power of the press - after you get yours back - Letters to the editor or local TV stations sometimes have wondrous effects.

Can't you just take your spare set of keys and take it whilst their back is turned? What would they do about it?

Pay everything, get a receipt and take them to small claims court. This is a predatory act. You parked in the only area available. You may lose, but at least you get the satisfaction of taking them to court.

if I'm gonna go through all the trouble of getting fucked.... I might as well get fucked!

my thaughts exactlly

Ok Kids..Since I know you're all on the edge of your seats biting your nails in anticipation of my update...

I FINALLY got ahold of the guy, he actually didn't seem like the maggot I figured he was.I can pick up the car in an hour and it will cost $125.00..

Not what I really felt like spending a days wages on, but, what the hell,it coulda been worse.Had it happened in NYC or Connecticut, it would have easily been around 4 hundred..

Now I just gotta hope they didn't loot it..

Thanks for the update Kenny, I was up all night with worry wondering if you got your "love machine" back.

Tonight I can sleep easy.

Not a problem Kest, I figured you, more than most wouldn't be able to rest until you knew it was safe back in Daddies custody..

^ Sounds like someone has first hand experience with "The Love Machine".

He does. You shoulda seen the look of horror on his face when I picked him up at Kennedy Airport in that old relic..

The car is older than he is..;)

Soon my days of being a 'skipper' will be over.No more boats.I pick up a Neon in a few days.It will be the smallest car I've ever had.

I'll always have my memories..sniff..
