Now this is worth pondering...

Not really -- it's just the fundamentalist error flipped over. Given that, it's actually a demonstration of a desire not to ponder at all but to leap to conclusions based on someone else's definition of the terms.

That's true of a great number of images in this thread -- they're not humor so much as chortling over their creator's deep ignorance.

Amen! Even worse, if you attack the moderates you are just going to drive some of them back into the hands of the fundies.

Well, the real problem is that the term "moderate" is misapplied. Many of the people who don't take Genesis 1 & 2 literally are anything but moderate; they're just as fanatic as those who take it literally -- and they actually have scholarship on their side!

Reminds me of some of the things in some old family diaries, specifically how at one point some Irish immigrants changed their names when they came here in order to appear they were English, and at another lots of Germans changed their names to do the same.

And another question... If you have such contempt for the ignorance of the people creating the memes, why do bother posting here? Why not just leave the posters to wallow in their own filth?

The only reason to take much of the Bible literally is because fundamentalists define it as being the right way. It's just as foolish to take it literally without examining it if you're an atheist as if you're a fundamentalist.

This one should get a special award for ignorance -- the person who made it plainly didn't bother to read any of the story at all.

The universe may have been made out of nothing, but by the time God gets around to that rib business, He's been making things out of other things for quite a while.

Though in fact the Bible doesn't claim those other places were destroyed. Making it a "worldwide flood" is a bonehead mistake arising from failure to actually learn what another language is saying using imagery from another culture.

Someone needs to read the book instead of just snipping out verses without checking to see what they mean.

This is like claiming that Sherlock Holmes got a case wrong because some bobby said earlier that some piece of evidence wasn't relevant.
