  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

Discussion Thread from the Funny Anti-Religious Pictures thread.

So your response is "I said you did, so you did!" That's kindergarten logic.

You know, kids and drunks say the truth, usually. I wonder what a drunk kid would do.. I´ll pray to god for the answer, I´ll let you know it as soon as I get it.

I forget what the fallacy is called, but your reference to someone's movie has no bearing on whether the man is a highly-regarded expert.

Your highly regarded ding-dong made a choice to appear in this crackpot commercial for fundamentalism.

Plainly, a person's career choices are relevant to his expertise.

To be fair, I'm sure Mr. Warner Wallace is highly-regarded by both the producers and audience of the movie; that doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Philosophy knows that some questions cannot be answered.
Religion believes that answers cannot be questioned.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

The same is true of Socrates.

No, Aristophanes the playwright wrote about Socrates during his life time. And Plato and Xenophon wrote shortly there after.

Fallacious argument -- it's exactly like saying that police officers fight house fires because firemen do. The "idea of a prophet-God-son" was not current, and never had been, in Judaism.

You regularly stuff modern dictionary meanings in ancient Greek terms; now you're stuffing Roman culture into Judaism. Both are fatal errors in scholarship.

I never referred to Judaism. I suspect scholarship involves reading accurately. In any event, your desire to believe blinds you to the point being made. Whether Jesus was a man-God or an inspirational, but non-divine, cult leader is a matter of debate and not as certain as you pretend. It's your faith-driven asserted certainty that drives some of the anti-religious humor. You're welcome.

Aristophanes the playwright, a contemporary of Socrates, caricatured Socrates in a play called THE CLOUDS in 423 B.C. Socrates died in 399 B.C. According to Plato's Apology, the play was used in evidence against Socrates at his trial.

His career choice was forensic investigation. He taught it to others.

Participation in the film only shows he's willing to lend his expertise.

If you didn't think you were referring to Judaism, then you know so little of the topic you should just cash it in. How could you possibly not realize the culture you were talking about?

I notice that my fact-checking post was moved. That you leave your lying image up just demonstrates you don't care at all about truth.

Thus showing that this thread should be in Fun ad Games, because it is not a discussion thread -- discussion threads at least allow fact-checking.

You might want to follow your own advice. There's more to Middle East, Arab and Roman history, mythology and religion than Judaism.

That's a great example of doing a Richard Dawkins: talking about something outside his knowledge and expertise. But just as with Dawkins it doesn't mean the professor is not an expert in evolutionary biology, this doesn't mean Wallace isn't an expert in criminal investigation.

But it raises questions about his methodology and sources, etc.

That the good don't fall ill is a notion that a few Republican "Christians" have touched on. One's man's fact-checking is another's faith-based proselytising.
