Discussion Thread from the Funny Anti-Religious Pictures thread.

^ and THAT might be the word most often misspelled (when used) by Americans...possibly even more percentage-wise than using "it's" for the possessive noun. Wow...and even I misspell it, and I'm pretty good at spelling.

This sums up religion perfectly! "I have to kill innocent people to prove that my god is more loving." ](*,)

You mean the possessive pronoun ;)

And I don't know what their places are in the hit parade of misspelled words, but my two pet peeves are ad nauseam and chaise longue. Chaise longue is, in America at least, not only frequently misspelled but also mispronounced horribly. The reason is obvious: since "chaise longue" is French for "lounge chair", they mix up the two and somehow insert the spelling and pronunciation of "lounge" into "chaise longue". Watching Americans do this with a straight face is sure to make European audiences crack up.

Ah, thanks...I think we have a winner...though chaise longue (which I actually thought meant "long chair") is directly unchanged from French. I correctly pronounce it as "chaze long" and spell it correctly, but I'm thinking perhaps no more than one person in 200 does that (at least in this country).

Johaninsc - there are handicap parking spaces at churches, not because they haven't healed these people, but because there are secular laws that require churches to provide these types of spaces. In the United States, that would be the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), in the State of Texas that would be the Texas Accessibilities Standards. Although most of these laws do provide exemptions for religious facilities, most architects that I know go ahead and provide these spaces as a simple solution of design.

Besides. . .one has to have a space for a disabled person to park before they are healed :rotflmao:

Mods, I appreciate that you removed Kulindahr's comment saying that my posting these pics makes me look like an idiot, but it really isn't necessary; Idiot, ignorant...I've heard it from him before

it's not important what he thinks of me

years ago, my dear sweet evangelical granny called me a cock sucking faggot piece of shit half-hangin' outta dogs ass

who could top that?

Yes, you could be called "sweet evangelical granny".

Mods, I appreciate that you removed Kulindahr's comment saying that my posting these pics makes me look like an idiot, but it really isn't necessary;

It's just part of the theme of allowing religious people to be disrespected and made fun of, but no one else -- even objective assertions get pulled if they bother the anti-religionists.

Even you must be aware that there is a difference between what people are from birth/genetics (eg. race, sexuality); lifestyle choices (eg. obesity); and belief systems (eg. religions).

Not according to the Code of Conduct.
"Please do not use language that sounds like, stands for, hints at, abbreviates, or insinuates hate speech (including but not limited to racial, ethnic, sexual, or religious slurs"

Apparently to the mods here, cartoons aren't "speech", at least when it comes to religion.

This entire thread is dedicated to what "sounds like, stands for, hints at... or insinuates" slurs on religion.

I got quite irritated with an award-winning author last week while reading a new novel that made it "chaise lounge".

I enjoy the antireligious pics seeing them as a means of pointing out the contradictions in religions.

I also follow Kulindhar's posts knowing that he sees them from a different point of view to many of us. I sometimes find his comments making me reconsider my position.

If I started a thread with amusing stereotypes of blacks, trans or Muslims would it be allowed? What is the difference between memes about religion and those about blacks?

The only difference I see is that an amusing anti-blacks thread would be attacking individuals whilst the anti-religion one is attacking an institution.

Anybody any opinions? If any mods pass this way I would be interested to know where one stands with the CofC.

The difference between "looking like" and "thinking".

But, of course, the problem with religion is that they are about "believing".
