While you're at it, also explain the meaning of the lyrics to MacArthur Park to me, too.

If brains can't be supplied, the zombie apocalypse is doomed.

Zombies merely consume brains, but brains can not be supplied like blood

We were talking precisely how zombie apocalypse thrives... by the need for brains

^ Yes, that was the result Google search gave me, but I still don't get it... oh, you mean I have to read the lyrics to understand it? Understand the relation with this thread and Hark!'s comment?

Besides, Hark! typed "Woman", not "Women"... so I could not be sure.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics [2012 - 2022 Edition]

Actually, didn't they do a lot more than simply disparage science? In those days, weren't scientists subject to possible torture for heresy, perhaps put inside the iron maiden or on the Catherine Wheel (a/k/a breaking wheel) or such?

If I had a HOUSE here in Chicago and that was on my door, I'm sure it would get stolen pretty quickly.

Wow, so Satan actually thinks that REASONING is good - while he is also "DISCOURAGING NEGATIVE THOUGHTS"??? Maybe not such a 100% bad dude after all. (Of course she meant for discouraging to be an adjective, but it also works as a VERB and I'm gonna run with that, lol!)

Johan, HOW in the hell do you find all of these? In all the years of this thread, I don't think I've ever seen as many as ONE of your comics "in the wild" and I look at a lot of comics!

I've SO stolen this!

ATHEIST: A person who is very familiar with The Bible, and who has applied logic, inductive and deductive reasoning, and rationalism to what [imagine, then insert, gender-neutral pronoun, which does not exist in English, here] have read, and came to the very reasonable conclusion that God is portrayed as a being who is capable of repeated mass murder, and that there are many incidents and stories that are impossible.

I know a number of atheists, and every atheist I know has read more Bible than most people I know who go to a Christian church.

Though I'm Christian myself, I've always had (and always will have) unconditional respect for atheists as well, because FREE WILL IS A GOOD THING, and I consider that conclusion to be entirely valid. I don't have even a TRACE of an issue with that. I like it that way - very much!

Was that actually a REAL Simpsons episode, with that quote? Wow!!!

Actually, Johan, that's part of the problem - a HUGE part - because THEY DO believe with all their heart. So much so, that they feel that they MUST FORCE IT UPON ALL THOSE "HEATHENS" and they're free to do it by any means necessary, because God did exactly that. A book, written by human beings (and translated and re-translated to fit agendae of various points in time), said so.

And certainly "titheing independently" of a church is a far more effective way of actually helping others.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics [2012 - 2022 Edition]

Is this an actual statue on a church somewhere? I doubt it, but anything is possible with photoshop and almost anything is possible without, lol.

Oh, when I was a boy, I was SO BRIGHT that my father called me Son, lol.

I've long imagined (I mean for a number of decades, now) that if I was instead in an "alternate universe" (or perhaps even in one of my for-real prior lives, because I DO believe there is "something going on there" and that we are more than three-dimensional), and I was a plantation owner with a few slaves, I would have treated them with unconditional dignity, considered them to be my equals, would've "been there" for them if they needed to talk about anything, had them eat meals with me (or us, if I was married), made sure they had a real education, PAID THEM decently...you know, make sure they knew they were a valid part of my life...and also tell them everything about what most other slave OWNERS were doing. They would have been happy, and they wouldn't have ever wanted to leave, because the grass wouldn't be "greener on the other side."

temporary... Also curious if this is an actual billboard somewhere? It really is plausible...

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics [2012 - 2022 Edition]

IGNORE THE "TEMPORARY" above...I didn't manage to remove it quickly enough. That was only there as a place-holder, because when you multi-quote in a post, you only see LINKS to pictures that you're quoting, and you really need to SEE THE PICTURES to remember which one is which before it's possible to comment properly. Odd that my multi-quote Post #6934 above DID actually show the pictures when I was constructing the post, but the next two didn't, so this post behaviour is not always consistent.

As it was, I just barely managed to get my "slave thoughts" in, barely short of the "finish" because, when I then IMMEDIATELY went to remove the "temporary", the ten minutes had expired.

But, in short, even though I may have BOUGHT slaves, I can't imagine how I would have considered them anything less than full human beings with feelings and hopes and goals. Anyway, that's what I think, but of course I say that out of a perspective of the 20th and 21st Century thoughts that I've been exposed to for all of my lifetime. Many of those patterns of thought didn't even exist yet.

So, would the thought of me taking the role of being a wonderful boss, and treating those human beings (who just happened to "look somewhat different than me") as employees AND as my equals AND with friendship, have been such an entirely alien concept at that time-and-place, that there wouldn't have even been a possibility that I could even think of anything so entirely-outside-the-box???

I couldn't find that particular statue, but nude statues in churches aren't that unusual. I know at least two naked Christs by Michelangelo alone. Here's baby Jesus in a church in Brugge, Belgium: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madon...gelo)#/media/Bestand:Madonna_michelangelo.jpg

And here's his adult Jesus in the nude: https://www.theguardian.com/artandd...elangelos-naked-risen-christ-national-gallery

^ Completely different: not knowing the meaning vs. not knowing what it means.

The problem that pseudo-Evangelist haters have with Swift is the same that any other people have with the real sense behind the "symbolic appearance" or "signification" that they attach to this thing or that person.

The sort of people who would not even know "what you are talking about" and would just condescendingly deride you or pissedly hate you for pointing that out to them.

Re: Funny anti-religious Internet pics

does seem to be very common here and generally to attack the obvious absurdities of the various religions , whereas historically science and medicine are and have been used to justify castration lobotomy and straight-forward extermination quite recently . Dr . Mengele was an M.D . and I think published .
Nice try, but you cannot compare the two historically. JUB is not a forum conducive to debate, so I’ll leave it at that.
