My guess is that they're those guys who got all their info on what gay people are like from watching RuPaul's Drag Race and "what Not To Wear." They think that being gay is about going to bars and being a barfly... not fitting into that.. they decide that means they can't be gay.

While the people on the forum might not have had any actual conversion therapy it sounds like they've put themselves through something very similiar to conversion therapy; making homosexuality out to be something bad, shameful and/or less than heterosexuality. Tactics heavily deployed by conversion therapists, religious or otherwise.

Another tactic I've noticed is masculine identity. Conversion therapists seem to make a big thing about masculinity and how gay people have a scewed perception of their masculinity. So they must strip infront of the therapist, stand infront of a mirror and touch themselves O_o. The thread I've been reading has people constantly saying how you can only be 100% masculine and your only truely a male if your straight. Sayign such things as;

I have never met a gay guy (including myself when I was gay) who was emotionally truly mature and not seeking masculinity in someone else. The key for me, and I believe would be for all gay males, is once you see and feel masculinity in yourselves, you are significantly changed. You dont seek it in others. I dont think the change is possible in all gay men, due to past experiences and present circumstances.
