"The Walt Disney Co. said Monday it is acquiring Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion in cash and stock, bringing characters like Iron Man and Spider-Man into the family of Mickey Mouse and WALL-E.

Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters. Many of them, including favorites such as the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, were co-created by the comic book legend Stan Lee."

Oh Guys Cheer the Fuck up...Disney did a decent job with "Pirates of the Caribbean"...That was Edgy...Wasnt it?

Oh and you'll love this....."The Rock" has a lengthy Contract with Disney so be on the look out for him to be cast as one of your favorite super-heroes...LOL.....

I'm sure Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears & Justin Timberlake will be cast in future projects as well..

Uh, why are they putting Wall-E along side Mickey Mouse???

I don't care about Marvel because, let's face it, those movies suck. But as if Wall-E deserves to be mentioned in the same breath/sentence as Mickey Mouse.

Reactions are mixed. Many of the 'faithful' like the idea, especially the husbands, but many others are horrified.

Why the very thought of seeing Spiderman scaling up the side of Cinderella's Castle has them slipping into seizures....

my only concern would be if disney types started meddling with the actual publication and editorial decisions at marvel. but at the same time marvel as a comic book institution is boring at the moment. great characters like spider-man are boring. the universe is over run with mutants and mutant titles. maybe the acquisition will do it some good.
 
Oh, I imagine they'll keep the brand identities separate for now, even Disney isn't brazen enough to mess with an established formula...

But.

Over time I'd expect at least a gradual pasteurization of a segment of Marvel's brand. Most likely aimed at the much younger set.

Spiderman Babies, anyone ? The Incredible Hulkette ? #-o
