Disney buying Marvel for $4 Billion...

Well...to be honest, Disney owns other propeties that aren't super family friendly at all. While ABC Family is full of cheese galore, their shows arent very kid friendly, more like 16+ kid range, and thats if you parents care if you know about promiscuous sex.

So I am not as worried about Disney owning Marvel as most.

They also own ABC proper which isn't known to be super kid or family friendly at primetime hours at all. Let's hope they keep the kid stuff seperate from the mature stuff they own like they have been.

Oh, I imagine they'll keep the brand identities separate for now, even Disney isn't brazen enough to mess with an established formula...

But.

Over time I'd expect at least a gradual pasteurization of a segment of Marvel's brand. Most likely aimed at the much younger set.

Spiderman Babies, anyone ? The Incredible Hulkette ? #-o

Please. More likely to be a crime fighting Disney Princesses team...

Isn't Marvel Entertainment Inc. just their movie section arm, not the actual comic book printing part?

If it is, then Disney's just secured the movie rights to Marvel Characters (with the exception of the X-men, since I think Fox still has the movie rights).

If not, then we could be in big trouble...Just don't make Deadpool kid friendly!

hmmm this could be interesting to see how this plays out

Not a fan.

What makes Marvel so unique is as the 'House of Ideas' is that they are an independent organization that has complete control of their characters. They only answer to the fans.

Now they answer to Disney. And anything Disney wants to change or Disney doesn't like, Marvel can only do what they say.

While I don't believe that Marvel will cast Zac Efron as Spider-Man, it's foolish to believe that Marvel will not have ANY influence on how Marvel controls it's characters and direction is story ideas.

Look what happened with Time-Warner and DC.

DC can't put a movie out without their express approval and their characters remain stagnant and unchanging.

Disney thrives on having 'iconic' characters like Mickey Mouse that is unchanging and forever. And anything in the media *coughSmallvillecough* will instantly be transferred to the comics whether they like it or not.

If Marvel wants to have a new Captain America or change the X-Men roster, than Disney may say no.

Especially if they already have a mindset of who Captain America should be and who should be on the X-Men.

The House of Ideas may be censored.

I don't know how I feel about this.

I mean, lately Marvel has been suckin' hardcore.

I partially blame their Editor in Cheif, Joe Quesada.

So Perhaps they're just buying Marvel, but still letting them operate as Marvel, and a seperate enetity, and if I they so will it fire Quesada!

No way in hell, they will fire Quesada.

Fans may not like him.

But Marvel's stockholders LOVE him.

In pure economic sense, he did a phenomenal job.

Walt Disney Pictures Presents: Spiderman 4.

Lol!!!

As long as they don't tone down the characters it seems cool. Maybe we will finally get an X-Men 4 with a rogue that has miss marvel powers!

I am guessing most of you are joking, but in case you are not what makes you think they will change much.

The Walt Disney Company owns some of the best production companies for adults with no sign of the mouse.

I've seen on other forums suggestions about who should go against the Punisher. I want Chip 'n' Dale the overly polite chipmunks.

Yes, but the difference here is that theme parks are involved.

Disney World and Universal Studios have been rivals for years. Especially here in Florida.

Imagine if McDonald's got controlling interests in Burger King's Whopper. What would happen ?

The thing is Marvel is not really for 'adults'. Realistically, most of it's audience who reads their comics are in fact adults but the common perception is that comics are for kids and teenagers.

It's naive to think that Disney who now owns everything that Marvel ever made in comics is not gonna influence it's characters...since they own the characters out right.

I understand that, but most people are talking about Marvel people teaming up with Disney people in the comics. Even some of the cartoons in this thread are saying it in their own way. My point is the comics are not going to change much at all. Marvel has been doing what it does for years, making money. Over the years Disney has bought a lot and not much changed, why would they do it now?

The biggest change I can see happening is Beast meeting up with Beast at a park.

Disney owns the comics. Hell, they own the damn comic. According to their contract acquistion, Marvel doesn't own anything Marvel. Disney owns Marvel.

I would see a significant reduction in comics that don't rack up sales (i.e. Runaways, SHIELD, etc.) and a significant push for 'family friendly' characters like Spider Man and the Fantastic Four.

Its funny we are using the same point, but coming to different conclusions.

My point is Miramax Films, The House of Blues, Buena Vista , ABC, etc. are either own completely or in part by The Walt Disney Company and are all ran as different companies. I am sure this is what will happen with Marvel.

Back in the 90’s there was a TV show on ABC called Soul Man with Dan Aykroyd. That show was produced by Touchstone Television and Wind Dancer Productions; and was distributed by Buena Vista Television and American Broadcasting Company (ABC). All four of these companies are/were owned by The Walt Disney Company. Long story short Touchstone Television and Wind Dancer Productions sued one another over profits and because the problems could not be solved the show was cancelled. Michael Eisner (the CEO at the time) or no one else told them to knock it off. No matter what the out come was The Walt Disney Company as the parent company was going to lose money.

Now if they would lose money in such a way why would they mess with a well known product such as Marvel Entertainment? There would not be much in it for them, but probably losses.

Also Miramax Films although owned by The Walt Disney Company made such films as Pulp Fiction, Trainspotting, Swing Blade, The House of Yes, Happiness, and Clerks etc.

Now why do you think they are going to Disney up Marvel Entertainment?

"The biggest change I can see happening is Beast meeting up with Beast at a park."

Haha, that would be funny.

Disney has fucked up its own products before.
The Lion King 1½, The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning, Belle's Magical World, Cars 2, Tarzan & Jane, Kronk's New Groove, 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure, Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World, Atlantis: Milo's Return, Brother Bear 2, The Fox and the Hound 2 to name a few.

So why wouldn't Disney fuck Marvel up some how?
