Disney rebooted pinocchio with a black fairy and youknowwho is mad

Let me reiterate for the audience, that "he" is emmy, grammy and tony award winner cynthia erivo. and again, women can have muscles too.

In my defense I only glanced up from what I was reading for a hot second I wasn't paying too much attention!

I was being all indignant but I'm gonna tell the truth i thought it was a dude at first too, i thought the angry response on twitter was because the fairy was gender nonconformist (is that still a term?)

Meanwhile...over at the Little Mermaid...

I guess this retroactively makes it okay for white people to play Egyptians in Gods of Egypt.

A White boy can play Mulan now. Can't wait for the Timothée Chalamet reboot

The difference.

Disney is including people of color because they were exluded before. That's entirely different from swapping from a place of retaliation and resentment. The spirit, the motive is what's different. The difference between dating someone because you like them and dating someone because you want to get back at your ex and throw it in their face. Petty is the difference.

OR instead of an obvious rapid corporate campaign to reboot all the European stories with noneuropeans in a 10 year timespan they COULD film stories of other cultures and show them. I don't know, just an idea. It is now an obvious overt campaign

I just wish it wasn't done this way, wish they would elevate other stories and create new characters

That's not why it's getting awful reviews. It's just badly done version of an already superior one.

Why can't both be true? It's not like this is the first time youknowwho has gone apeshit over color-swapping. and tom hanks is not getting good reviews for his performance, so there's that. maybe it sucks AND people are really insecure about seeling people of color onscreen.

Not with a lot of them. I've even seen a lot of reviews criticize how they downplayed the role of the Blue Fairy. She only appears once in the whole film. It made no sense for her not to appear again like the animated version.

For reference, see black Captain America.

After years of watching white actors playing Native American, Asian, and Middle Eastern figures in movies, people are losing their shit over a talented black actress playing a mermaid.

Tell us you're racist without telling us you're racist.

No reason to get mad. Bad productions and bad commercial decisions are made every day in Hollywood. And no one can imagine "truth" is at stake from some cartoon. The contention that there is any significant opposition is a bit laughable, as it is about as impactful as a Chinese or black santa, against whom almost no one protests, realizing it is the cultural interpretation of a shared myth.

And JUB isn't really any place to discuss race as long as the site pushes racism in its moderation. Just a pointless exercise.

On average, there isn't much racial strife in America considering the mix, the history, and the numbers. But, fanning the anger and animus serves to make the few feel superior and the many annoyed at the distortion, from all races.

:rotflmao: At least you're consistent. Since we're not racist can anymore can you tell the comic and Star Wars geeks to stop bullying black and asian CHILD actors into quitting social media? Preferrably before they push someone to the brink of suicide, which I'm sure would be a delightful ending for them.
