District 9

Neither do I. Which is why I asked the poster above about his comment. I imagine there's some logical reasoning behind his post, but I'm not holding my breath for a response.

Some South Africans are sorta annoyed because, well, you have apartheid back in South Africa. They think that they've advanced some as human beings, and then some movie has to de-evolve them some...

Thanks to film distribution, I was only able to see this now. (This was the first night after the premier here).

I was expecting more after hearing ALL the hype after opening day...I felt it moved slow in the begining...

I liked the beginning better than the way it ended.

It started out like an excellent black comedy/social commentary and finished like any action movie.

"B-Actors" of course...I agree with a critic that said it's a "revamp" of that old movie and series "Alien Nation"....

Those of you that have not seen it should wait for DVD or HBO...

I found the idea very refreshing, but I couldn't get over the stupid swim caps they were all wearing.

Well i haven't seen it yet but now that it got a best picture nomination i will go rent it and see what i have been missing.

But Avatar is so epic that i don't even have to see any other nominee to know who is going to win.

Hurt Locker is the only spoiler for me because that was a real as one could get.

As an overall movie District 9 is a better film than Avatar.

Technically/visually Avatar is superior.

I recently rewatched it on Blu-ray. I enjoyed it more than I did in the theater. I recall the theater version that everything looked blurry and gave me a headache. But in HD everything looked much better and made me appreciate the story a bit more the second time around. Still, not an overly great movie imho.

I enjoyed Avatar much more, on all levels. Not that there's anything comparable with these 2 movies except that they are both sci-fi.

Let's face it. If there were only five slots for nominees neither of these movies would have made it.

The only reason they extended the list of nominees from five to ten is to have some mainstream movies in the mix to attract more viewers, plain and simple.

Avatar is the Taylor Swift of movies.
