Wow, this thread, or at least the sentiment it is trying to rally up, is such an assimilationist, social fascist fest. Gay people should be fighting for the sexual freedom of all, not fighting to be a part of the status quo so that we can turn around and call people perverts and oppress other people the same way straight people have done to us for centuries. Holland is on the right path. Sex work should be legal. Drugs should be decriminalized. They're living without hypocrisy, which is more than we can say. As for the pedophiles, well, they should have a right to organize, but that doesn't mean anyone is going to support them. The best way to expose the crazy beliefs of people you disagree with is to let them express their beliefs so people can see how crazy they are, instead of making them look like a subversive, radical group that might be interesting.

Yes. But my point is that "sexual perversions" are all lumped together and if opponents of gay rights can find a way to label homosexuality as just another perversion then it harms the fight for gay rights. This is not a new or novel argument. In the US opponents of gay marriage have argued that allowing gays to marry will lead to a push to marry children and animals. Yes, it sounds absolutely crazy. But guess what - US Senators have made this argument on the floor of the senate. Think about the uproar about Adam Lambert's kiss. A kiss, not a crotch grab, not a blow job, not an anal probe - a simple kiss between two consenting adults. I am still not sure why exactly it was controversial which is rather frightening because if something benign can be censored how can we possibly achieve equality?

There's no point in pandering to those people. They will always find some absurd argument to oppose gay rights and make it sound plausible to their base.

perversion and acceptable behaviour changes from generation to generation/society to society....ancient Egpyt was fine with royal siblings marrying, ancient Greece promoted mentoring relationships between men and boys...who the hell knows what will be acceptable next month, let alone a 1,000 years from now.

Believe me. I went to a Jewish school for many years and was taught all about the Bible. The religious right has corrupted it and lied to everybody. HOMOSEXUALITY was not the Sin of Sodom!
