Do straight people get AIDS?

I was talking with some people I work with yesterday and they brought up a co-worker who just found out he has HIV. When I got back to my department a 20 yo male asked me," if he were to kiss this guy could I get aids?" I could not believe the next question "can straight people get aids". I knew the guy was naive, but I was shocked.

I also know straight couples that are having unprotected sex. And some people wonder why the number of STD's and AID's cases is on the rise.
 
More heterosexual couples are starting to have anal sex, so hell yeah, they're gonna be at risk for HIV/AIDs (but the gays are still going to be blamed for it, alas).

It's also upsetting/saddening who many gay men are having unprotected sex.

if straight people don't get normal illnesses such as cold/flu,
no they don't get aids.
 
It doesn't help that the Catholic Church has brainwashed many people into thinking that using condoms is a sin.

AIDS has been a 'gay disease' for 30 years. Many straight people still believe that and are convinced that they are immune.

You can get aids from vaginal sex too, and blood transfusion done by a back alley Red Cross outfit, it's a human tragedy and not just for gays anymore.

I read some where that some gay men think that not having AIDS makes you a "virgin". I'am not sure if that's true or not, but sad if it is.

Straights DO get AIDS and many are HIV pos, they just hide it more than we do. So says a close friend of mine who is a Physicians Assistant. She said there are a lot more hiv infected straights than we hear about.

I'm sure the CDC has statistics on all of it.
 
Years ago there used to be statistics on it. Consistently around 70-75% of the cases were gay people, and many of the "straight" cases had shared drug-needles. It's also possible some of the others may have been on the down-low.

I haven't heard any percentages in MANY years...

Until now it is still considered that way. Hence the situation in the OP, which is, despite unbelievable, is quite often.

Apparently straight people usually consider themselves immune to HIV/AIDS. They also consider anal sex as the only way to be infected and even with that, catching HIV is something very rare and wouldn't happen to them (which is of course wrong).

I mean, I just met a patient who presumably had it from tattoo. Try to explain that to people and most will say you're bluffing.

Vaginal sex is a high risk practice too.

Yes.

There is a strain of HIV that is more prone to spread through vaginal sex but it's usually the bottom (in straights that's the woman) who gets infected easiest when the top has the virus.

Since gay men can both fuck and get fucked (straight couples can't do that, there's only one penis between them) it was able to spread more efficiently through our community.

Of course, it can be spread through shared needles in drug use and if the top has an open sore on his penis it makes it easier to catch it from an infected bottom.

Moral of the story: Use a condom.
 
Blood, semen, and vaginal fluid is how HIV is spread. So yes, straight people can get HIV. Also, an infected pregnant woman can give the disease to her unborn child.
 
Of course straight people get aids. It is why it is pandemic in Africa.

I just could not believe my eyes when i read a post from a gay man asking if straights could get aids,then a few posts down trying to justify such an idiotic question .
I have just had the privelege and the pain of caring for my best sraight girlfriend who had slept with an amazing total of 4 men.
Right up to that last moment she never tryed putting the blame on the guy.
She used to say it takes two to rumba baby it was just a mad night of DRUNKEN
fun.the hardest part for me is like me she is/was a fully trained doctor and she was only a year older than me (30).
She passed on at 4.15am GMT this morning and the last thing i could do for this
brilliant,dedicated fantastic woman was sign her death certificate.
Aids does not give a fuck who it kills just so long as it kills so please both for you and the other person always practice safety. As spock says live long and prosper.
