  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you believe in a God?

^ that's a nice clean recording of the Mozart Requiem but Brahm's is much bigger and more colourful.

there's some hot syncopation around 9.00 ;)

The only part I found funny from his work is this obvious choice..:

"Behold, all flesh is as the grass"

Yes that Brahms is a much clearer recording of this great sonic work

Wait-... when did I post A RECORDING of anything from Mozzaretta's requiem on this thread?

Yes, I believe in God. Since the day that I was born, my parents and grandparents taught me about God and were good examples. I saw how they prayed and believed. I am and was raised Roman Catholic. I have watered down some of it, but essentially still believe and follow it.

What xboxfan.34 said (post #34) about God being a force of nature rings a bell with some of what I believe. I believe that God likes to work through others and through nature. I believe that as science learns more we will understand how God did some of his miracles. We now know that his miracle of the rainbow is light refracted through water. I believe that God said let there be light and the big bang happened. I believe that God created through the process of evolution.

I am a traditionalist but have a broad range of what I consider traditional. I have read some authors who believe that extra terrestrials from outer space were here throughout history and have sometimes been called angels. Even if extra terrestrials were called angels, the gist of the story is the same whether God sent angels or he sent extra terrestrials.

I believe in life after this life. Because of that I am most likely to believe in something that tells me that there is life after life. I don't necessarily believe that we have any inkling of what life after this life is like.

Addendum to my post above. I tend to believe that our souls are energy forces, probably electrical energy forces, that will continue after our bodies die.

Biblical image of God, no I don't.

I do believe in spirit though, and I believe in energy. I believe we create the world around us as we believe it to be, and that there is more to life, than this. I don't believe death is an end, but as to what death is, I've got no idea, I don't remember the last time I experienced it.

To paraphrase author David Weber from his book By Schism Rent Asunder (because he puts it so much more eloquently than I ever could ;)

Either God exists or he doesn't. There are only these 2 possibilities. If he exists, as I personally believe, than anything that promotes that truth will only tend to demonstrate His existence. And, if He exists, than whatever happens will be what He chooses to allow to happen, even if, for some reason beyond my comprehension, what He chooses is to have humankind turn against him.

And, if he doesn't exist, than nothing really matters. Because, humans MUST have the right to refuse to believe before they truly can believe. And, if it turns out that my beliefs are wrong, after some nearly 60 years of living my life as a good person, hopefully loving all and serving them as I might, then at the end I'll simply close my eyes and go to sleep. Is there anything really terrifying about that possibility? Personally, I believe that there is something beyond death, but if there isn't, I can still be content ..|

Assuming that God is a "he". Personally...if I had to choose I would guess that God is not at all like any of us and exactly like every one of us...as in spirit. I think Mother Nature is a much better choice if one is to define God because she really does give and take life...and she really did create the world...and she really can end it all. The earth itself is our very real God in every respect. Mother Nature gives birth to everything and everyone......

In the realm of spirituality...I think pagans come closest to the truth...for me anyway.

You are quite correct, EOE. In a human's limited use of English, there is no descent non-gender specific pronoun for using when one doesn't know which (male or female) something could be. This also assumes that God has a specific gender ;) I've always believed that the reason God has been given a male pronoun in the Bible and other historical texts is that in the era that these were written, that society was predominately patriarchal or male dominated.

I will state categorically, that God has both an inimical sense of humor and an impeccable sense of timing :-)
