What sparks your curiosity, Josh?

That JUB may represent a spectrum of diversity cannot be a surprise.

That JUB will predominately represent the segment of Western culture that is post-Christian will also be predictable.

In keeping with the known opinions voiced the most often on JUB, the most common incidence will be agnostic/atheist, followed by quasi-Buddhist/Hindu mixes of Eastern Mysticism, followed by a smattering of devout Christian/Muslim/Mormon responses.

No?

One thread more, one thread less, who cares. There's always the hope for a surprise though

Not only do I believe He exists, I willingly and freely place my trust in Him personally.

I don't understand the question. Which god? Thor? Zeus? Gozer? Judy Garland?

I mean forum. Since you care about repetitive threads, you could easily block them there ;)

No particular reason, just felt I hadn't seen one of these threads in a while and I'm actually surprised by the number of people who said yes, it's a bit too early to judge though.

Cause no one knows if or when the majority's opinion will change.

I kind of do...but not really. At times I'd like to think there's someone who's listening to my ramblings to myself, so I don't feel like I'm alone.

Of course I believe we should be headed in a Good Orderly Direction. Do I believe in a deity? No.

:rotflmao: Er... I mean... Blasphemy!!! Disclaimer: Learned and presented by Rote, official sponsor of the Catholic religion.

I kid, and that was a bad joke. Forgive me.

I have difficulty with faith, because I tend toward logic and analysis. As it's said, faith is blind. Still, despite a home-schooled, quasi-Christian upbringing, I do believe in God. I know for sure that praying helps me in times of adversity. At the very least it serves as a reminder, a reminder to be thankful, humble, and loving. Though, I draw the line at being so thoroughly one or the other as to leave myself with the short end of the stick. It may be selfish, but I also believe in "balance." I, as an organism, depend incontestably on the balance--or "dynamic equilibrium," to say it differently--of the systems that surround and sustain me in order to survive into the next moment.

So, short answer: Yes, I do. And I hope to someday meet him, and possibly learn answers to everything I haven't been able to understand. But if not, I'm thankful for the wonderful time, however long or short, he saw fit to give me in this world.

Oh, yeah. And I don't think anyone goes to hell for being gay. There isn't a
Commandment against sodomy... is there? Again, I kid. Truly, I believe sex to be an expression of love. But that's just a matter of personal opinion. I believe the whole Sodom and Gomorrah ordeal would have had more to do with vice and corruption than sodomy. I think man tried to speak for God when it was reported that sodomy was part of His reasoning for annihilating the city. Good and bad are an expression or manifestation of the same thing, I believe. But that's another topic for another time. ;)

You need to define God b/c people have different ideas of what God should be.

It's not about what I say God is but what God is for you, if there is such a thing in your life, it's a very open question. You can explain yourself in a comment...

I usually believe in God, but I have my doubts at times.

Cause no one knows if or when the majority's opinion will change.

Well right now the poll is split with 3 (including myself) in the "I'm not sure" column. Where do you think it will go?

I don't believe in the "God" of the Christian Bible ... or any other deity mentioned in any organized religion.

I do, however, think that whatever is responsible for the creation of the universe is an element that has yet to be revealed to us, and will very likely never be.

That is what brings about the Great Mystery ... "what is the purpose of the universe's existence and the existence of life"? Since the unknown is something unacceptable to the human mind, and due to the inherent and lazy nature of man, so many people go along with the Bible as it is a simplified explanation for how it all happened, no matter how untrue much of it likely is.

But I do believe something supernatural is responsible for our creation, whether it be what we think of as a deity, or perhaps a multiple amount of deities, or extra-terrestrials ... or something else we can't even fathom. We just simply have no knowledge of what "The Unknown" is ... or was.

For purposes of this poll, I answered "No", because it appears to be asking if we believe in the Christian God, Yahweh/Christ.

I believe in a central organizing intelligence in the universe, and I call it God; I believe that one can tap into that energy by opening onesself to it, and I call that prayer; I believe that things go with or against that central organization, and call that Good and Evil.

But I cannot bring myself to believe in a micromanaging prissy vindictive schizophrenic that wants me to do this or that but not the other in accordance with some ancient text culturebound to an extinct culture. That's just silly.
