A guy told me that he can feel and see good and bad spirits.
I said why only you and afew others can see spirits but not me (and many others).
He said because you are not open to spirits therefore you don't see.

So, my question is, do you believe in spirits and why?

I believe in, and prefer the company of the drinkable variety assisting me mellow my mood after a day's work.

lol,
no, he felt and saw spirits passing by.
He said it looks like a smoky thing zip pass by quite quickly.

I said maybe its all in the mind but he said he saw it with his eyes.

He also said:
"Schizophrenia people can talk to spirits which normal people can't.
Africans in africa and native american indians don't have Schizophrenia because they can control the spirits ..."

I think that when schizophrenic people talk to spirits that they are probably
having a stage1 or 2 psychotic episode, this does not make it any less real to
them as psychotic episode,s really do appear so believable to the person having
the episode. Which can be very frightening for that person.
I have seen a person right in the middle of a psychotic episode, and it was a truly horrific thing to witness.

So, from medical point of view, there is no such things as spirits ?
He didn't say he talked to spirits but he said he felt and saw spirits passing by.

And no, not my housemate,
its another guy, more up lifting than my housemate.

We should be wary of permitting deeply felt prejudices to formulate speculation that associate mental health issues with people who are hyper sensitive and may experience inexplicable phenomena indiscernible to most people.

My question is valid, is there such a thing as a spirit in medical terms.

No, not according to my orthodox Western medical school training. I am not a psychiatrist/psychologist.

However, there is an enormous reservoir of written testimonials that appear to suggest many people believe in spirits arising from their very personal experiences. To write those witnesses off as mental health cases is both illogical, and irrational if we are to maintain an openness to learning that there is more to life than we can easily interpret through our senses.

To say one needs help simply because they believe differently than you is not fair. How do you feel when people call homosexuality a disease?
I personally DO believe in spirits. I don't feel it is possible to believe in God and not believe in spirits, demons, etc. Also, I had experience that was witnessed by others that actually led me to a doctor. And do you know what that doctor said to me? "Some things cannot be explained by science. Just be grateful God was on your side."

As a footnote to my last post i personaly do believe in spirit,s i have worked in
hospitals enough to know that some things you just cant explain.
I do not think that the medical proffesion "per se" has any written policys about spirits, ghost,s and the afterlife.
The closest you will come i think is when a group are discussing the pro,s and con,s of Near Death Eperience,s.
Which are very interesting and i would strongly suggest to anyone who is interested to google the subject, amazing and unerving but really riveting. ..|

But if only one patient saw the spirit and the rest did not see the spirit,
wasn't it all in the mind of that patient?

This is true, at face value as it is written.

One must also be wary of accepting such claims at face value, without making the effort to corroborate those claims, to test alternative interpretations, or through acknowledging the limitations of a claim to private, inexplicable knowledge.

Of course you would.

I'm a polytheist at heart, so yes. But I don't think schizophrenics have some kind of special connection to metaphysical beings; I think they're just schizophrenics.

It doesn't have anything to do with mental illness or schizophrenia. Some people are more sensitive to the faint energies that make up the spirit world and the spirits know this. That's why they seek those more open, like me. I see them all the time and actually have one in my home that shows himself to me on occasion.

More info, what do they look like?
Who/what is he ... etc ?

The Spirits can show themselves in any shape or form, and they can also make themselves felt by those with the ability to discern the spirits, to determine if they are of God or of the Evil one, and for some of us who are Christian...we all have the gift of doing exactly that...discern the Spirits, and we are to test the spirits too.

again if a room full of people and only 1 person can see/feel the spirit,
what does that tell you? Its all in that person's mind does it not ?
