That ain't normal and never happens to me. You need to try some other kinds of tooth paste and mouthwash.

No disrespect intended.
But why not eat breakfast first?
I like to brush, and I only use Colgate toothpaste.
I brush after every meal and whenever I feel like it.
I also brush when rising, and before laying down at night.
I have managed to keep all of my original teeth.

funny, i don't seem to have that problem using my dremel.

just a quick rinse with water and i'm sound as a bound!

I need to brush my teeth as soon as I wake up. My mouth feels so gross when I first wake up. I usually don't have an issues with the tastes of food. Maybe I have just gotten used to it!

Yup, this is me. I can't eat or drink anything until I've brushed

Then I drink my coffee, no toothpaste taste left over

I brush after breakfast. Actually, I've got a whole ritual. First I floss. Then I rinse with a whitening pre-brush rinse. Then I fire up the electric toothbrush. Finally, I use the water-pik with some mouthwash in the water. It's amazing how much stuff still hides in your teeth that you find with the water-pik!

Some people have the toothbrush-affects-taste problem and others don't. I do; my mother does not. She never understood why I was unwilling to drink OJ after brushing. I think it may be genetic.

The purpose of brushing your teeth is PRIMARILY to remove food particles. Bacteria that have accumulated in your mouth overnight? I've NEVER heard that before.

Eat first, then brush. If your mouth is just too gross in the morning, rinse with plain water first. Then eat. Then brush.

I brush first thing when I get up but very seldom eat breakfast. Floss after eating the rest of the day. Eating without brushing first sounds kind of gross to me.

My dental hygenist told me that toothpaste is actually unnecessary. It's only real purpose is a mouth freshener.

She said that brushing with warm salt water or just water does the job as far as preventing gum disease.
Yes, but toothpaste is there to do more than help prevent gum disease. It's also there to clean teeth - and a good toothpaste does that better than salt water or just water.

How old is your Hygenist? That sort of thinking went out years ago.

For the record, guys, you should brush AFTER meals, not before.

If you wake up with 'bird cage breath', THAT'S when the warm salty watercomes in handy.

On waking, give your mouth a quick rinse with warm WEAK salty water. Then warm plain water. This will not make your fruit juice or cereal or bacon and eggs or whatever you have for breakfast taste sour, bitter or otherwise unusual.

After breakfast, THEN do the toothpaste and mouthwash thing.

By the way, I am a Lecturer in Dental Surgery.

here's an idea why dont you brush your teeth AFTER you eat since plaque comes from food that you eat (mainly)...you brush before bed too, right?

If I have the time in the morning, I usually brush before AND after I eat. I definitely have to brush as soon as I wake up. Sometimes I don't have breakfast until a while after I brush so I rarely have those taste issues.

Vannie, I always thought you left your teeth in the glass by your bed while you ate your porridge?

I brush and gargle first thing every morning...
But it before I go to bed that I do my serious dental hygene...floss..water pick..etc.

I rinse with a mouthwash, just a bit, then have breakfast.

My teeth get cleaned after every meal.

That's how mother raised us and it stuck till this day.

Exactly what I do! I use alcohol free mouthwash.

brushing your teeth before eating is like taking a shower before going to work in a coal mine. or wiping your ass before you take a shit. goes against the natural order of things. at least in my mind.

A shot of green olive brine should take care of that morning taste :) it's alcohol free as well.

Yes, after I have something to eat I brush my teeth and gragle with mouthwash. Gotta kill that morning breath
