  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you call in sick when you're really not sick?

I called in sick many times wshen I wasn't sick, but almost always I was incapacitated in some way. Usually that meant that something kept me up far, far too late and I wasn't functional at 7 in the morning. That was especially true when I was approaching the time I would quit the job to do my own business, because for a while I was putting the new business in motion (AND involved in a cross-county, NOT cross-country, move) and those last eighteen weeks of my job I averaged less than three hours of sleep a night.

But I could also be tired because I spent an allnighter with a good FWB or such...and any day I called in sick I stuck as close to home as possible.

I never called in sick to extend a trip or anything like that, with one exception I remember - going to a Detroit Tigers daytime ball game.

Yeah I did it just yesterday actually.

I had a big party I went to on Saturday night. After being at work from 5am- 4.30pm on Saturday, going to this party and not getting home until 2.30am Sunday morning I really wasn't looking forward to another 10 hr day at work.

My boss was cool with it. She knew I wasn't actually sick, but there are always guys in our department looking for hours so getting a replacement was easy.

I don't do it too often but I always work 5am starts on weekends so its not too often that I get to have a really big booze up and a really late night.

I've never called in sick just because i didnt want to work, but i have called in sick even though i wasnt for other reasons.

Like when i took my sister to the airport, i didnt get back until 6am and i went to bed at 8am. I had to work at 5pm but i was just way too exhausted and i knew i would do horrible so i said i had the flu.

... and this somehow gives them the right to takes sick days away from work when they are not sick?

Perhaps they need to focus on whether the 'cost of living is ridiculously high' or if they are living beyond their means before they start making the excuse that they 'Have to' do anything.

Whether it is one dollar or one hundred dollars is irrelevant. The contract between employer and employee is established when the offer of a position and the acceptance of the position is made and consideration is shown, in this case, by the way of a salary or wage. If you have a problem with the actual amount which you are receiving as consideration then your options are as follows:
  • Do not take the position.
  • Negotiate a higher wage/salary based on your level of experience.

And if you are expecting your employer to give you all of the profits to remove the stigma of 'Capitalism', then that is called Bankruptcy.

.

Something tells me you are in the law field. :gogirl:
