  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you collect?

I used to collect Pokemon cards. I then gave all mine to my neighbor and kept certain kinds of pokemon cards. Then I began collecting patches. Then I began collecting keychains. I also started collecting coins, stamps, and fanny packs. This was all before 5th grade.

Now I collect Broadway playbills, shotglasses and coins(sometimes)

I used to have a nice collection of elephants. From all over the place..But a tweeker freind stole them from me..I still have a couple of them though. One of them was my grandfathers..

I never set out to collect elephants, but one night while driving cab,I had to accept a couple of brass elephants and a dolphin with a broken fin as payment for a $25.00 cab fare..

I chucked the dolphin and kept the elephants rather than persue a theft of service charge.Next thing I know,my freinds started buying me one here and there from their vacation destinations .I started buying them too, before you knew it,I had a nice collection. Some real nice, some little more than trinkets..

Nonetheless,I started to enjoy them ,and made a point of picking one up whenever I was at a place I enjoyed. They were stolen, neglected by a freind while I was out of town burying my mother..I got what passes for an apology in junkie speak, but I never got my elephants back..

Since then,I've found myself collecting weird WWII shit..Like ration books, newspapers announcing spectacular battles or miseries to be endured on the homefront.Like an April 23'rd 1942, N.Y.Daily News headline that advised it's readers, gas would soon be rationed to 2- 1/2 to 5 gallons a week..Good times! I also have newspapers from FDR/JFK's death, the Challenger explosion,9-11,etc..As well as full page cigarette ads from the 30's and WWII..

My favorite is this one from Life Magazine circa 1944..It's a picture(painting really-ad style) of some all American boy ,wounded in battle, and he's laying in some hospital bed.The nurse is lighting his cigarette. She looks like she wants to blow him..

I got a kick out that..Can you imagine a nurse lighting a smoke for you in the hospital today?

I collect coffee mugs. Not special coffee mugs or anything just ones in different colors and have different designs or pictures on them. In fact I just got a mug for my birthday with Baby Doll from Sucker Punch on it. Started collecting them a couple years ago. Before that I was collecting crystals and gems back when I was going through a Wicca phase.

I collect too many damned things.....

Sports Cards (football, baseball and hockey)
music boxes
cookie jars
department store cookbooks (yup you read that correctly)
Hess Toy Trucks
Little Golden Books
Vintage Gay Porn Photo books and magazines
coins

(when I croak, my surviving family will make out well from selling my "stuff")

Actively: Shotglasses, theatre memorabilia from shows I have seen, and items that have meaning to me.

Non-actively (I will start again when I get more money) : Leather bound books in general and signed first editions especially, anything X-Men related, signed skate decks by action sport athletes, nude art of any kind I find pleasing, rubber key chains, and sexuality related books.

I am sure there are more, but I can’t remember them right know.

Time to update.

This comes to mind because of a news article about a family going bankrupt collecting Beanie Babies.

Is your collecting in hope of gain?

I've been properly gay and done the antiques thing. Left most of it when a former partner and I split.

Did the opera star autograph thing too. Left that too.

Have a modest collection of Steuben, which will ultimately go to niece I suppose.

Collect Easton Press editions (generally signed), which will make a nice addition to my local library when the time comes.

Have a modern triptych destined to join its other two triptychs - which actually will form a novemtych - at the Smithsonian.

In the gardens: lots of different hostas.

So - what about you?

Wow, I've been looking at Easton Press. Might start a book a month deal. They look beautiful.

45 rpm records. Specifically, instrumentals between 1955 and 1980. I especially like soul and funk, but I have rock, jazz, classical, reggae, "world"...

Not for financial reasons. I just love the things.

I collect boxes, cigar boxes, wooden boxes, cloth boxes (but all boxes must have lids!). I also collect foreign moneys and weirdly shaped tools (gigantic pencil, miniature tea set, that sort of thing). Oh yeah, almost forgot - Also collect weapons that aren't guns = swords, knives, axes. I'm picky though, and K. owns most of my collection through bargaining and gifting. But I'm in the process of building my collection back up!

I mainly collect vinyl records, tapes, vintage electronics, things like that. Some people like to collect things like that and just put them on display, but I like to use my stuff regularly.

I collected lotsa pictures from internet: porn, arts, random, funny, JPEG,GIF,PNG, etc

my hobby is to manage (organize) them while Im out, in the car, about to work in the bus with my non wireless netbook.
I love the sense of how those things organized no matter how overwhelming these pictures are..

and sometimes they ignite creativity to make a thread or as samples to refer to some of jubbers

that's unique avatar you have there..wish I can have a bigger resolution ^^

Lol old thread to be revived regardless. I used to collect Yu Gi Oh (Japanese TCG) cards, but they got way too pricey. These days I don't really collect much of anything except videos / pictures(artworks). And maybe men's semen? :p Kidding of course LOL!!!

I do that with my porn too! I neatly organize it by category. The only mobile device I use is my laptop though hehe...
