I personally find no need to pay much mind to the messages on other's T shirts, and I do not wear T-shirts with messages. As far as pride goes, it always precedes a fall. I want people to have self respect and self esteem about whoever they are, and to respect others for who they are as well.

Shep+..|

there's no need for straight pride anything, it's already everywhere. everyone automatically assumes everyone is straight.

Not at all. Pride is the opposite of shame, after all, and they shouldn't be ashamed of being straight. Shame they don't know what they're missing, though. :)

Yes and no.

We all know the world practically spins on straight pride. Our culture not only normalizes, but glorifies heterosexuality. So a Straight Pride shirt isn't just overkill - it's a bit of gloating and/or bullying.

But so it goes, and I don't give much of a shit.

Ain't that the truth? An old co-worker once asked me about that, in a non-confrontational way. She was more curious about the T-shirt's intent than anything else. I told her that this whole society expects everyone to act straight anyway and to deviate from that invites social scorn. I told her, half-jokingly, that if she wanted to see straight pride just go to a wedding, a ballgame, any frat rush party, any girls gone wild video, a beer bong, any rock or hip-hop concert, any instance with two lipstick lesbians going at it, soap operas, debutante dances, proms, any Oprah show about relationships, ANY Maxim or STUFF cover, Cosmopolitan magazine and anything in it, any gossip rag, church services, or a good number of hate crimes being committed against another human being. All I got was a shocked look.

I don't have any problem with it conceptually, but don't you think the Straight Pride shirts exist as a counter to Gay Pride ones? If there were no Gay Pride ones, I doubt the straight ones would exist. Whether it's in good ironic fun or a homophobic gesture, it's seems only logical to say that the straight pride shirts are targeting gay pride in some sense. It depends on who is wearing it I guess.

Mind you, I find it kind of silly to wear anything that displays political values/beliefs/etc... I think someone above mentioned tacky. That is dead on.

many worlds cultures no just idiotic< it way toos kind> ans follow words ma feelins after pull ma finger nails

no anime express ma feelins

as long folk talk out whereeva country da mountains crap world pump out taday nevers mind past 2000 ans even internet drip in da shit of it

I'm offended by the typeface used in the left image. Frakturs are overused by white supremacists/racists, so I can imagine who's going to buy that t-shirt.

If someone wears one like on the right image, it's alright as long as they're doing it jokingly and not radically out of superiority.

 Are you serious? That's nonsense!

Personally, I find both Gay and Straight Pride
Tee Shirts silly and unnecessary.

But if gay people can walk around shouting to the
mountain tops about how proud they are to suck
a cock, then I see nothing wrong with a Tee Shirt
proclaiming one's straightness.

Double Standards much?

Reread some of the previous comments.

It's only a double standard where all parties held to the standard are equivalent. They are not, in this case. One party has almost all the power and influence, the other has precious little.

I read your post entirely, and you still
referred to straight pride Tee Shirts
as being equated to White pride.
That's the only point I found disturbing.

Why? I think they're very similar, myself.

As I said earlier, I find Sexual Orientation and Racial Pride
displays quite silly. I was taught to be PROUD of
the things I accomplished in life, NOT of something that
was pre-determined at birth (such as Race and/or Sexual Orientation).

To some degree I might concur. But I don't think of PRIDE as a matter of being gay, which isn't a choice, but living out and gay and well, which is a choice.

First, it's important to remember what "Gay Pride" actually means.

As has been pointed out, being "proud" to be gay isn't the same thing as being "proud" of an accomplishment. I didn't do anything special to be proud of, rather my gayness is a natural trait that just happened.

Instead, the word "pride" means something else to gays: it's a rejection of the "gay shame" that homophobes would impose on us - telling us that there's something wrong with us, and we should hide in the dark and conceal our "shame." So I'm "proud" in the sense that I'm not ashamed of who I am.

"Straight pride" tshirts obviously don't have a similar message to convey, so what are they about? I see two possible messages, both ironic: either it's a self-parody ("See how ridiculous it is that I'm wearing a shirt that proclaims my freedom from nonexistent straight persecution!"), or they're mocking the notion of gay pride by extending it to straights.

As usual, it all depends on the person and the context. So just ask the person, if you're curious ..|

Looks like the person wearing the black "straight pride" shirt is ashamed to show his or her face.

Years ago at a Pride event someone said the man and woman together reminded him of a human and an animal together implying beastiality. :P

Offensive? No. I consider them redundant.

Straight people have 365 days a year to walk around in public, holding hands with the one they love, maybe even sharing a kiss.

Gay people ask for a few hours out of one day, in one part of the city, to say 'yes, we exist', and some straight people go fucking apeshit.

So these 'straight pride' tees allow us to identify the real morons and avoid them.
