Not as a general rule. I don't drink to get drunk. Once in a while at home I will have a beer or a drink, but I can go a whole month without alcohol and not miss it.

I hate it when that happens!


I sometimes have a few beers, sometimes get pretty hammered by myself. Not alot, but it happens.
And when I go out with friends to drink, I usually get drunk unless I have to watch out for a friend or whatever.

But then I can go a couple weeks or more without a single beer and not really know the difference.

The only thing I drink is one glass of red wine before I go to bed, so yes I only drink alone. However, every day I go to the couple of Vet's organizations that I belong to and have a soft drink and socialize for a while. So the answer is "yes" and "no".

The only time I might drink alone is having a glass of wine while I'm cooking a meal. Otherwise I'm a social drinker...only at the bars or at parties. I don't enjoy drinking alone.

For example, the other night I got invited to a party, and after some in-depth consideration I stayed home instead.

I felt content to spend my evening with Johnny Walker, and his neerdowell brothers Blackie and Red.

Enough of that....

What's always irritated me about that song is the line, "You know when I drink alone I prefer to be by myself...."

It makes no sense.

Well, I suppose on some abstract plane of reasoning it could. It is possible, I suppose, to feel like you're drinking alone even when you're surrounded by a crowd of people. "Alone in a crowd", and all of that.

But I doubt ol' George was addressing advanced concepts of social alienation, but rather just trying to fit words into the song's meter that rhymed.
