  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you drink alone?

To be honest, I only really drink in social situations... as a social lubricant, or so I don't look like a stuck-up prude, or a little of both. And when I do, I have like 3-4 drinks, max. It's not really my drug of choice, I mostly just see it as a social activity.

Other drugs, though? Yes. For example, I've done Ketamine and LSD tonnes of times by myself. Though those drugs can go very well with self reflection and solitude. You tend to explore strange internal/mental landscapes as the basis of the trip, so doing them in a social setting can kind of serve as a distraction.

I don't do drugs so much, anymore, though. Mostly because I've been doing the whole Eastern Spirituality 'trip out on sheer mental discipline/force of will' thing that you can get from meditation or entering various states of trance or self-hypnosis.

Sometimes I drink a beer for myself, cause I really like beer :)

But I never got drunk alone.

Once in a while (once ever 2 or 3 months) but for the most part I drink with friends.

No, i never drink alone.

Don't drink a whole lot. often go a couple weeks or more without a drink.

But hey i'm a cheap drunk - doesn't take me much to get drunk when I do haha

I don't drink, but my roommate is a hopeless alcoholic who will lie and steal for booze. He is quite happy curled up in a corner somewhere with his mickeys of vodka and/or his 6-packs of beer. He seems to be happiest when he is blindingly drunk. He can leave the apartment sober and come back an hour later so drunk that he can barely walk. That can't be healthy.

He told me many years ago that he's terrified of being alone, yet that's the way he seems to enjoy living the most. Just him and his booze.

95% of the time, he drinks alone. The other 5% of the time he's drinking with his alcoholic buddy.

Of course I do and I see nothing wrong with it.

A quiet moment with a glass of whisky on finishing work. A few glasses of wine with the evening meal.

Now if you are drinking at home alone in order to get drunk rather than enhance a pleasant moment of solitude then you have problems.

I don't like beer but could quite see myself opening a bottle whilst watching a film on the television if I did.

If my dog is there with me, that don't count as being alone.

;)

As long as you dont offer the dog any booze, I'm ok with that.

I have drank alone and gotten drunk alone before. I wouldn't say that makes me an alcoholic. Hell the last time I actually got drunk was at a College graduation party in May.

Just remember: All things in moderation.

If nobody is in the house with me, then yep - I will drink alone.

I also do other things alone too - read a book, use the bathroom, cook, surf the net, have a cigar, drive my car, masturbate, laundry, make the bed - lots of things can be done alone.

as a rule, only if i am by myself.

I really think it's a question of moderation like any other vice in life.

Is it wrong to get falling down drunk by yourself ? Yeah, probably.

Is it wrong to have "a couple" after work ? I don't really think so. I mean, I live alone these days and Lord knows it's a lot cheaper to drink at home than go out to the bars.

And hell, you could argue it's actually being more responsible. A couple of drinks home alone and there's no getting behind the wheel and risking a DUI, among other things...

Keep it in check and I see no problem with it.

sometimes I sit in the dark and drink, I mumble inaudible, uninteligible words and scream at the cat....thing is, I don't even have a cat.
