Do You Enjoy Watching Documentaries?

Yes, I actually prefer it to almost anything else on television. I am looking forward to the Ken Burns documentary on Ted Kennedy.

As a history teacher, I have found that most younger people hate history, because they find it boring, irrelevant, and they would rather be making their own history. However, as people age and get some perspective they enjoy history, documentaries more and more.

I like watching all those crime docos. I always find that stuff interesting.

Anything that seems interesting to me at the time...

I've watched a few on health care here in Canada, the future of the shopping mall in North America, and other things.

Nature ones don't tend to hold my interest for too long, unless the subject is something I have an interest in.

But if you put on a political doc; well, I'll be riveted for quite some time.

*). Documentary about Isaac Levy and Zabulon Simantov, the last Jews in Afghanistan. In stead of supporting eachother, they've been on bad terms for at least a decade. Together they share the court of the old synagoge in Kabul. They each live in another part of the building. Old Isaac lives on the ground floor. He sells kabbalistic amulets and other magic cures to his Muslim neighbors. The top floor is for Zabulon. He's a clandestine winemaker who sells his hooch to the same neighbors. Director Dan Alexe takes turns discussing their issues with both men, much to their mutual annoyance.

Either there's a huge untapped market for mainstream documentaries, or people who don't like documentaries don't like them so much they won't even enter a thread about them to say they don't like them. I'm favoring the latter.

I really enjoy documentaries, but like most it does depend on the subject matter. A memorable one I saw about one year ago was when on Hitler and the Nazis. It was truly horrific, but a great history lesson on how evil Hitler was. I also loved a documentary on National Geographic called "80's Tech" where they showed how the technology of the 80's was made and how it worked. Like VCRs, Walkmans, and the Delorian Car. I was riveted for the entire hour. And any documentary thatshows how movies are made will have my undivided attention.

I do like watching Documentaries sometimes about Other countries.and ghosts and ufos

and the ones on logo about gay themed stuff

I watch a lot of the ones that end up in the independent theaters because they are typically rated so high.

I'm not so big on nature documentaries. But I like Frontline and things like that.

And I love anything "behind the scenes" in the performing arts. The Making of Julie and Julia, or whatever, I could watch that all day.
